MemberHay I have the same problem as the first message (MSN wont connect error : 10056). I can rule out a few things but I still can fix it.
I run NO firewall, The proxy does, but a different computer running trillian can still connect, I cant. The proxy settings hav not been altered since it worked in the past.
I downloaded MSN messenger (from MSN.com) and it wont connect it tries then goes UNABLE TO CONNECT, make sure your connected to the internet. blah blah blah.
I have tried playing with it but no luck. For me all this trouble started 2 days after I installed Patch D, I have now uninstalled trillian and reinstalled it, with no patches but no luck.
If u can fink of nefing I hav missed or hav any I deas what might be causing it reply PLZ!!!

MemberHi, My name is Drake, and I’m a trill-a-holic.
This is as good a place as any, my little work around for Yahell’s issues. This works for a few others AIM/ICQ I think…
Today I got an error code 0 and could not connect to Yahoo. After fiddling with it for about 30 minutes I got it to work… in doing so I pulled up a command prompts and did the following
Code:ping csc.yahoo.comI got a time out. For some reason I was not able to communicate with the yahoo server that is configured in Trillian. So then I opened up yahoo’s java version of it’s messenger. (you can do this by going to http://messenger.yahoo.com and clicking on ‘launch yahoo! web messenger beta) then did this command at the dos prompt…
Code:netstatin one of the lines I saw this
Code:cs62.msg.sc5.yahoo.com:5050So I knew I was connecting to yahoo, but not the csc.yahoo.com as it should be. So I went into the preferences of my yahoo connection and changed the csc.yahoo.com to cs5.yahoo.com and left the port to 5050 and presto…it works
Here is a trick I did when my company decided they did not want any instant messenger traffic. It worked for Y! AIM and ICQ but not MSN, did not try w/ Jabber cause my jabber is internal.
In the connection preferences of each medium I changed the port number to 80. Some of these guys allow connecting at that port -don’t ask why. Port 80 is just your standard http traffic (such as going to http://www.bigblueball.com) so most firewalls allow port 80 traffic. Presto.
Did ANY of that make sense??
Thanx for letting me share!

MemberAnd of course today proved me completly wrong and had to change the sc5 back to scs… Oh well… The port 80 thing still works through my firewall though. 😉 …sometimes

MemberRita,
Same problem here! I also can not connect to msn.com from my home PC. So, I tried both sites (Hotmail and MSN) from my office computer. BAM both pulled up. It appears and this might be overkill that we have all been black listed. I am also a trillian user and use to get popups from Messenger stating that trillian was unsecure and I had all the latest patches Grrrrr… Anyway, I tried to download the latest MSN messenger and it still did not resolve the Security popups in Trillian. I have a number of members on my BF1942 team that are also having the same problem. Anythoughts?September 25, 2003 at 6:35 pm #67704ebartlow
MemberI was digging aroundin Yahoo!’s registry settings and found the following servers that it connects to. I’ve tried them here at work, but still no luck connecting through Trillian. Maybe they’ll be useful to some of you out there. They were all set to use Port 5050. I tried them all on Port 80 to no avail.

they have done something to screw up trillian.I saw in the article at BBB’s front page that trillian dev’s are working hard to fix the problem.

MemberI haven’t read all the replys here, so maybe this was already mentioned, but I reciently upgraded to version i, and had problems connecting to Yahoo and MSN through Trillian.
I saw a suggestion on another forum that worked for me.
Right click the IM program in Trillian, and click “Connection Manager” for that IM program.
From there, select remove account. (Don’t worry, you won’t loose your friends list)
Now, enter your username and password again. Click Connect.
That’s it.
For me, this fixed BOTH my Yahoo and MSN connection problems, and I didn’t loose any of my buddy lists.
Good Luck,
