MemberI have been using yahoo instant messanger since it came out through all it’s various creations, so I like to think I know what I’m doing. (although that may be debatable.. ) Recently I will log in during the evening sometime around 8 pm and stay continually logged in. I will be chatting with friends and somewhere between 10 and 11 pm my text thread window/im window will freeze up. That is to say that I can type my message in and send it and see it. However, I can not see my friends response even though they can see me and my messages.
The only way I can get their message is to log off of yahoo and then log back in. Even after doing this, I still will not be able to chat. I can see my “offline” messages and respond, but I can not have a continual converstion. In order to try and fix this, I even downloaded the most current version of yahoo im (ver 8) and I am still having this problem. Has anyone else had this problem? Please let me know if I have given enough information. Any help to resolve this would be greatly appreicated!!Looking forward to your help!!

ParticipantHi trickeylady,
Interesting problem, you say it only happens at certain time sof the day which is pretty odd, Do you have a anti virus or a anti spyware program set to run a scan at that time that would take up a lot of your cpu time?
If you’re running Yahoo! messenger 8.0.0.701 i suggest using this just in case it may be a ad thats causing the problem with ie whe it refreshes to load another ad.
When you reinstalled the latest messenger did you do a clean uninstall of your last version before updating? if not perhaps you should to have a clean install of the latest.
This program Will clear your last yahoo! off your system for you.
Hope this helps you.

MemberHi Dermot,
Thanks for your help. I used the program to wipe any of the original yahoo im off and then removed yahoo ver 8 as well. I downloaded it again and have reinstalled it. So far, so good. I did not have any problems last night, so hopefully this has solved my dilemma.
Many sincere thanks again!
TrickeyLadyP.S.. I just love, love your pic image!! Everytime I see it, I get a chuckle..

MemberOkay, the nightmare is returning again. From what I can tell, it’s is a length of time issue not a time of time issue like I orignally thought.
If I am on yahoo and actively chatting, after about an hour and half, I stop receiving my friends responses in the chat thread. (Before this starts to happen, I will get a messge from yahoo that I was logged out and back in again without me physically controlling it.)I can still send them my im’s and they can see them. I can not get their response unless I log out and login and then each reply is a seperate offline message. This is driving me crazy!!!!
No matter how many times I log out and back in, my yahoo never seem to work. Why can’t I get this fixed and am I truely the only one with this problem??Any help in permanently fixing this would be so greatly appreicated!!
Sincerely,

I have similar problems with yahoo from time to time. I noticed that whenever i get logged out by yahoo for some unknown reason and yahoo logs in automatically after that, my messenger starts acting weird (f.ex. cam wont start, messages are recieved with delay etc).
I don’t have a fix for that, but when i shut down the messenger completely after i got logged out and then start it again by myself (instead of allowing yahoo to log me back automatically), it just works fine.
I’m absolutely no expert, but maybe this problem has to do with getting logged out by yahoo for some reason?August 30, 2006 at 3:43 pm #150714Dermot
ParticipantHi Trickeylady,
So it’s started again, One thing i think about these disconnects is yahoo messengers connection manager unable to handle wireless connections, as MSN messenger handles wireless nat connection perfect and displays it so in its connection test.
Yahoo! really need to take a leaf out of MSN’s book in this agenda as a lot of people using wireless routers are having nothing but problems with been disconnected flawlessly all the time.
All i can suggest is perhaps use messenger alongside another client that logs into Yahoo! and when one disconnects you can use the other, or at least see if the problem persists or just yahoo! messenger related.

MemberThank you both for your help. One thing I am trying to remember when I log into yahoo in the beginning, I do not allow it to remember my id and password or to automatically log me in. This way , it can not log me in and out at free will which it was doing in the past.
We’ll see how long this helps. Anything new I can figure out or find out, I’ll be sure to post it.
Have a great day! 🙂
