Deathaspect
MemberI have had msn 7.0 since it came out and i have not been able to sign into msn 7.0 since. I have asked around at some other forums but this is the only one i havnt been to ask.
When i try to sign in the msn logo just keeps going round and round, and never signs in. I have tryed the Test Connection and all it says on there is that ‘Nortan Internet Security’ may be blocking the program i have checked and everything to do with msn has been allowed.
I tryed the Test TCP Connection, all that says is “Success, you can connect to the msn messenger service. I tryed to sign in again and it was just the same thing again, the msn logo just going round and round.
Can anyone help me with this problem?
Thanks in advance.

MemberHello and welcome to BigBlueBall, Deathaspect.
Can you access Hotmail? Or any other Passport enabled site? As I understand it, you can’t sign into MSN Messenger v7.0 at all, is that correct? I’m asking this because other people in this thread can *sometimes* sign into MSN Messenger.
As for the other people replying to this thread, I have a feeling you have a different problem than the one Deathaspect has, so I won’t be providing a solution for you here, but you’re welcome to try the one I give Deathaspect if I have one.

KeymasterTry going to the Connection setting again then to Advanced Settings and make sure all those options are unchecked. My messenger would take ages to connect just because I had the TCP option checked and no other ones. Once I unchecked that it started working. Give it a shot and see if it helps.

MemberOk the TCP thing worked perfectly.
Can someone explain to me WHY TCP prevents me from signing in.
I fail to see how a transfer control protocol can prevent something from transferring data.
Or is it just the case that MSN really are THAT thicK?:(

ParticipantThat’s odd, it works better with TCP unchecked? If all of them are unchecked, then it should use a HTTP gateway instead, which isn’t really ideal because it’s slow and I think it polls the server for new data.
The only connection related difference between having all unchecked, and all but TCP unchecked is the port it uses to connect. With all unchecked, it should use port 80, and with TCP checked, it should use port 1863.
Do you have anything such as a firewall installed that might be blocking port 1863? Maybe even if you’re on a school or work network, it might be being blocked by an administrator.
