MemberI don’t know if this is commonplace or not, but..
When I’m in a room, if there has been no activity on the mic for a few minutes, I’ll lose sound. I get no error messages or anything like that – I just won’t hear others talking nor will I see anything on the meter. The only way I’ll know it’s gone is if someone is typing in the room to someone speaking. I then have to reset voice in the room to get it back. This started several weeks ago.
Is this happening to others? If it’s pointing back to my messenger, should i use Dermot’s Magic Eraser (YRemover) and reinstall a fresh copy? Thanks.

ParticipantThis could be a probalem related to yahoo as they have been up to something with the servers as people are getting disconnected and reconnected.
As for your voice just stopping, it could be related but if your pc actually lets voice start i would imagine its perhaps either a soundcard issue or a connection issue with a firewall or router dropping connection.
You could close your UDP ports and force yahoo voice to use TCP instead of UDP, and see if you get the same issue. Some Chat programs allow you to this from within the client like YahELite, or soon to released YTK for Messenger.
If you’re not afraid to lose most settings on your messenger you can use my remove app and try that just to make sure.

MemberThis prob with voice only happens (to me) when you have more than one voice connection, say if you have 2 id’s in one room, both on voice, one will get cut after a few mins. I think it’s yahoo’s effort at stopping the sometimes very excessive voice bots that can fill a voice server in seconds.

MemberMFenech – I don’t use chat rooms, but just individual voice conferences, but in those I’ve had the problem you describe on occasions for well over a year.
But in my case I can easily “fix” as soon as I REALISE someone else is suddenly not being heard by me, by simply tapping my TALK button, which brings my hearing back instantly. And Optikal, no, I’m never on anything but 1 simple ID, and 1 voice conf.
I have many friends who use the same as me – a small number of them have this problem too, but most don’t – don’t ask me why !

MemberI was off YM for a month and didn’t bother with this problem until this past week.
I flushed out YM using Yremover and reinstalled 7.5.0.814, which is what I’ve been using since the beginning of this year. The problem didn’t go away. I’ve noticed that if no one in the room uses the mic for 30-45 seconds, I get no sound afterwards until I either reset voice in the room or go to another room. This happens in voice conferences also (which is no surprise since a VC functions exactly like any other canned room).
As to dermot’s other suggestions, I don’t use a router or a software firewall. I was thinking of installing YMLite just to test the problem on there. I wouldn’t know how to redirect to other ports.
I could flush YM again and use the latest version, but I suspect the problem is elsewhere.

KeymasterThat problems always been there for me. I never gave it much thought becouse I hate voice being on in chat rooms.
eagle_kiwi’s way does work, just turn off voice and back on and voice should be back.

MemberThis really sucks.
I finally got around to installing YMLite and the problem happens with it too.
Another person approached me saying she had the same problem. She was using YM 7.0. I had her flush YM and install the latest 8.x, just to see what would happen. No change.
I go to rooms where voice chatting and playing music are fairly routine. It’s driving me nuts. I need a fix for this. :crying:

MemberOne new development:
I’ve been playing with YTK Lite for almost a week, and I don’t have the voice problem when I use it. I’ll ask Adam if he knows why.
