im real confused, some people say it a virus, some say its power supply, just looking for advice….
WILL DELETING HARD DRIVE or clearing HARD DRIVE…. HELP?????
lookng for in-expensive fix… its a decent comp… an Hp, forget name, but its fast for an old (like 02) computer, VERY FAST actually…. lol, fast as my brand new DELL but has these problems…
wondering if anyone has any idea what the deal is????
Hi JS.
Firstly let me say I sympathise. That must be a real disturbing problem, and one that won’t be “easy” to fix.
My approach would be first to ensure it IS free of viruses etc. I assume it crashes whenever you try running any AV program, so the alternative might be to try running such a thing from Safe Mode, or failing that find an AV program that can be run from a floppy (with write-protect ON!) or from a CD. (And ideally boot the PC from that floppy/CD too, so your normal op.system is not involved at all).
If that approach doesn’t help, then I guess reformatting your drive and reinstalling Windows MIGHT cure the problem, if indeed it is software related – but then again even that may not work if perhaps it is caused by an intermittent problem in hardware, perhaps motherboard or power supply.
Alternatively, can you simply bear to live with the problem ? 🙁
