MemberGreetings, everyone!
Ther has been a strange problem I’ve been experiencing, and I’ve heard that a few others have been experiencing similar problems.
I have a few friends that are online, but they appear online. When I asked one of them why they blocked me, she said that she did not block me. [1] [2]
I know that some AIM users tend to block others without reason; but these people are my friends, and I doubt they’d think “Who the heck is this?” and then block me.
I noticed that there are two possible situations:
1. The user would talk to me, and then appear to block me.
2. The user would appear to block me without saying anything.1. For the first situation, I could only think of two possible scenarios.
a. The user was busy talking to someone else and decides to block me momentarily (many people are known to do this)
b. AOL acts up2. For the second situation, I can think of a few possible reasons:
a. AOL acting up
b. friend thinks I’m some random stranger and doesn’t feel like talking (or maybe thinks I’m annoying lol)
c. accidental blockingThose are my conjectures, yet my hypotheses have been yet inconclusive.
1a and 2b are always possibilities, as people on AIM tend to block others without reason (it has happened to one of my younger cousins).
1b and 2a are somewhat unlikely.
For 2c, that’s one of the most likely possibilities. Some people might know me, but not close enough to put me on their BL. I did an experiment – if one has “show approval dialog” enabled, it’s possible for a user to block another user unknowingly.
If I type the letter “b” with the dialog, it will bring the block option up, and if I pressed enter, it would block the user. For a test, I IMed one of my linked screen names, and I typed “blah blah”. Sure enough, my other screen name was blocked.
That’s possbile, but it’s not too likely that a user’s always typing a word with “b” in it. For unexplained blocks after a conversin, well, maybe they just didn’t want to talk to me after all.
Anyone else have similar situations?

MemberThere think there isnt a problem here, you guys arent having any AIM problems that is causing that, i think this is more of a friend to friend thing, she might wanna talk to you becuase she is busy so she blocks you, or it might be the other way around, nothing we can help you with there

MemberSometimes my friends would say that they did not block me. 😮 Some people have been known to say “I g2g” before blocking other people.
If you’re right, they probably didn’t want to hurt my feelings directly, LOL.

MemberDouble check though. AOL is having ALOT of server problems lately. If you have gone through the topics recently, you will see that most of them are issues with adding buddies and getting kicked off randomly (server problems).
