There is a ‘Sticky’ thread that I can’t add to here about just about every version of Messenger available.
Does anydody know if either the 5.5 or 5.6 versions still work…and if so can you use the webcam/file sharing options with someone who might be using one of the very latest 8x builds?
I know all the smileys won’t work but not sure about the other bits and pieces.
If I know I can get back to 5.5/5.6 I’d jump at em like a shot…best versions ever released for people who don’t want a bloated entertainment centre which is what YM has become (in my opion of course 😉 .)

Actually Colin, thanks for starting a thread like this so i can link it to that sticky for anyone who has questions about it. (+ rep for you!)
As for your questions… Versions 5 still work, BUT new versions don’t communicate with anything other than same versions very well. So no cam, no voice, etc… Versions 8 stick together, Versions 7 stick together, because that’s how Yahoo! made them now. Which is why people get that message saying: Some features may be unavailable when using different versions, as well as why it says “Invite your friend to upgrade.”
I think i answered correctly, but anyone feel free to correct me if wrong! And i’m off to school in a bit, so *goes* 😛

I do need help finding old versions that does not have a download in the sticky thread.
Ok fellas later today my time I’m going to reinstall the final build of 5.5 the .exe of which I’ve kept on a spare drive here because I liked it so much.
Then I’ll give it a good try out with one of my buddies who has one of the 8x builds and see how things work out.
I remember it used to work webcam/voice/filesharing wise with the 6x + 7.0x builds but from 7.5 (which is when I made the jump up) and on I’m not so sure. I think 8x may be out of the question because of the MSN compatibility..but we’ll see.
I’ll let you know what happens a bit later in the week.

On freecreed’s site, he says that yahoo no longer supports voice in a PM with 5.6 and older versions of messenger. Not sure how that relates if one goes into a chat room.
I haven’t seen anywhere that says they don’t work at all, otherwise.
It does not supports in chat rooms too.They don’t work at all.The version 7 and 8 is compaitble with each other and work nice during voice chat.

The Old Canada-french version in “other country’s versions” post, is version 5.6.0.1356
