when I first installed Itunes i deleted all of their playlists (i.e., top 25 played, recently added, etc.)… I am wondering how to get these playlists back without having to readjust all the names of the artists/songs, etc. already in my library?
I have tried uninstalling itunes then reinstalling it, but for some reason my playlists came back, without the others. any suggestions?
Thanks!
The easiest way IMO would be to recreate the playlists you want manually via File>New Smart Playlist…
For your reference, the default smart playlists are 90’s Music, Music Videos, My Top Rated, Recently Added, Recently Played, and Top 25 Most Played. It shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes to make these playlists once you understand the form for creating smart playlists.
Good luck, and post back with any questions about creating playlists. I think I’ve struggled with and mastered all of the nuances by now.
If you are looking to get them back while also loosing your user-created playlists, you can remove the music database. It’s in your “My Music” folder, there will be two iTunes related files to remove.
ok i figured out how to get into the smart playlist section and mess with the requirements but how do i get the songs to actually add to them automatically?
If you set up the requirements correctly and you have “Live updating” toggled, the songs should be added automatically. This may or may not help you: comments | Smart Playlists.com
If you post a screenshot of the smart playlist setup screen, we can tell you what you might be missing.
I was able to figure it out.. thanks!
