MemberHey guys,
I recently bought a new AOC F19S monitor to use as a secondary monitor for my laptop (Dell XPS 1530 – NVIDIA GeForce 8600m GT) and its great, but I keep getting scan lines(?) running horizontally up and down the monitor. It is more noticeable on darker screens.
I’ve adjusted the clock and phase on the monitor and everything seems fine. The monitor’s refresh rate is 60hz vertically and on 48hz horizontally (I cannot change this setting).
Any ideas on what is going on here?

ParticipantAre you driving it with HDMI or VGA?

MemberI’m using a VGA cable with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

ModeratorCould you return it for a checkup or get them to replace it for you? Since you just recently bought it, it should be covered by a warranty.

MemberWell, I suppose I could. I mean the scan line isn’t exactly a “line”. It is really more like a shimmering, moving ghost-like line. It really seems as if the clock/phase are off, but they are not. Thanks for the advice though! Any other ideas? Could it be because of the 48hz horizontal refresh rate?

Is it a good cable? Is it running in close proximity to other cabling?
The next logical step would be for you to test the all 3 variables (computer, cable, display). It looks like that display doesn’t support any digital inputs (DVI/HDMI), but if it does you should definitely give them a try.
If I had to guess I’d say it’s cabling interference, but analog monitors always look like crap. Sometimes I can see scan lines on a few older analog monitors that are hanging around.

MemberWow, you were right on about the cabling interference! I unplugged everything from my laptop besides the VGA cable and the screen was crystal clear. Thanks! Anything I can do to combat this problem besides keep everything unplugged? Basically just buy a better VGA cable?
EDIT: Does this cable seem like a good choice?

I looked at that cable but I really can’t determine if it is of a high enough quality.
The key word you are looking for is shielding, a cable with a lot of shielding will prevent interference.
Without getting a new cable, you can probably set up your cabling such that the wires don’t touch. I’m guessing that the problem is from the power cable, but it could really be anything.
Btw, I also have an M1530 and totally love it. 🙂

MemberYeah I love mine too! Got it right before shipping off to college! And you are right it is definitely the power cable. I’ll have to try to rig something in my dorm room so that the two wires don’t touch. Thanks a lot everyone for all the help.
