ParticipantWould you-all like to know how slow AOL is??
I’m on 3MBPS LAN, I have friends that have AOL, but they can’t use KaZaA with AOL because it bumps you off. What did I do? I setup MY OWN dial-up Internet service Server connected to my LAN. 50Kbps connections EVERY TIME.
People, please, If I’m a better ISP than a huge company, they THERE IS A BIG PROBLEM.
**NOTE: these are my opinions only and do not reflect others likes or dislikes, or connection speeds of AOL.**

MemberYears ago we fielded a scientific software product whose name ended in “….Bell”. Needless to say, Ma Bell’s lawyers contacted us about the (to a lwayer) confusion that would result if we persisted with a name ending in “….Bell”.
There was no confusion, only lawyers that need to do something to show how important they are.
We got a lawyer, and the two sets of lawyers nicely bandied about, with no resolution in sight. How could they come to closure? They’re all being paid.
After several unproductive months, we finally decided to not pay any more – we’ll change the damn name.
When there was no more battle (or work) in sight for them, the Ma Bell lawyers decided that it really wasn’t confusing after all, and we could keep the registered name.
How can you tell the difference between a snake run over in the road, and a lawyer???
There’ll be skid marks before the snake.

MemberIf this hasn’t already been suggested, Jeff…
I suppose you could always add the all-purpose disclaimer…stating that you are “in no way affiliated with AOL Time Warner” and blah blah blah. Under these useful terms, they can’t touch you. AOL is always looking to rip people off…it seems AIM is all they’re realy good for. Keep in touch with your lawyer, even if it costs a couple hundred $ for his/her counsel…or would you perhaps enjoy a lawsuit? Besides, I believe you are entitled to use the AIM icon, under the condition that you include the copyright symbol. If this is possible (unsure if it’s legal), no one will notice. You can make those things damn small.

MemberJeff,
We can hardly blame the anal-retentive executives at AOL……think about it!…could you have a nice day with the CEO’s foot up your @$$.
I’m with you all the way !!!!!!!………..perhaps the Executives at AOL should take another look at their little ” Running Man ” he sure looks like “Mr. Ped Xing” on the Traffic signs……….*wink.
Love the site………and all the helpful info……..

MemberOOH I found something interesting regarding copyrighted material…read the section on The Fair-Use Statute Here
Even though this site it for “students” the Copyright Act of 1976 should still apply to BBB.

MemberJeez i always knew AOL was stupid and try to cheat people who discontinue there service, but damn they are dumb to be doing this. Good luck jeff hope everything goes good and since its been over a month well maybe it has. I signed up to AOL a year ago, we ended up getting comcast broadband and canceled our subscription with AOL. Well 4 months later my mom is checking her checking account statement and she saw she had been charged by AOL for 4 months of service. Called them up and after 4 hours of being on the phone and being transfered from department to department they finally got the idea we dont want them and they redunded us. Isnt that illegal? Yet nothing is ever done to AOhell about that. I mean hell they cheat people all the time and get away with it and now they are trying to do this to here? Hmmm ok

Maybe Richard Bachman AKA Stephen King’s Lawyers should discuss AOL using the title “Running Man” for their icon with AOL’s lawyers. I do believe “Running Man” was copyrighted as a book title and movie name before the internet came into being…..:p
Smiler is Awesome!!! Don’t let them get you!!
