MemberHello,
This looks like a nice forum. I’ve been around forums long enough to know that’s it’s polite to search for the answer first, before boring everyone with the same tired old questoins over and over. So I really searched, but I can’t find what I’m looking for. I apologize in advance if this has been discussed.I will do my best to explain this situation, and no, I’m not some nutcase, I’ve had my heart broken, and I’m trying to figure things out.
Here’s how it goes. I have 2 screen names, for simplicity lets call them Baby1 and Baby2. (not my real names)
I sign on Baby1, and I have six screen names in my buddy list all belonging to one person. I have the option checked “block all users”, so when I sign on no one can see me. I then go into invisible mode. (this is the only way I can figure out how to be invisible from sign on). Ok, then I go and unblock those 6 names to see if any of them are signed on. Within 15 seconds I block them out again.
Now on my screen name Baby1, I have one name linked to it, Baby2 which is also invisible upon sign on. No one on Baby2 is blocked.
Ok so let’s say I’m signed on. At the time none of my buddies are signed on. But 30 minutes later, one buddy signs on. Even though I have everyone blocked on Baby1, it still will show when they sign on. And if I put my cursor over their screen name, it will say they are blocked. However just because I see they signed on, I can’t see when they sign off or how long they have been on. That’s what I have screen name Baby2 for, it shows me when they leave and how long they stay. So let’s say my buddy is online for 1 hour, when all of a sudden on my screen name Baby1, it will say that my same buddy just signed on. This makes no sense to me, they never left. Why it is showing that they signed on again, when infact they never left? This sign on did not show up on my Baby2 screen name, only on Baby1 where everyone is blocked. What are they doing to make it show that they signed on again?Phew, this sounds totally confusing, I have no idea if I was able to get my question across to you or not.
Thanks for your time.July 14, 2005 at 6:01 am #126139rascat
MemberMight just be brief drops in the connection or by the server. Some of my friends on wireless connections drop out and come back right away all of the time. Sometimes I see them sign off and back on, sometimes it only shows them sign back on and sometimes it shows nothing. I think it depends on how long they were gone and what the refresh rate between all of the connections is (ie, they may be signing back on already by the time the server notices they left). Not sure if this is the problem you are having or not.

MemberThank you for the quick response.
Does anyone else think it could be anything else, or is this mostly likely
the answer?

MemberI’m not completely following you, so let me confirm some things.
baby1 blocks everybody
baby2 blocks nobody
baby1 can occasionally see blocked people that are unblocked on baby2
baby2 can ALWAYS see the people that occasionally display on baby1Is that entirely correct, and am I missing anything? I’m just trying to get it down into simplest terms.

Memberbaby1 and baby2 are linked together
baby1 blocks everybody
baby2 blocks nobody
when my buddy signs on it will show the sign on, on BOTH baby1 and baby2.
so the buddy will be on, and nothing changes on baby2, BUT on baby1 it will show this same buddy signing on AGAIN at different random times. why is it showing them signing on again on baby1 but not baby2… because they never left on baby2, they stayed steady on.
where is this sign on coming from and what does it mean?sorry for the late reply.

KeymasterThe same thing happens to me when I have linked screennames… nothing when the individual SN’s are signed on by themselves.
There is an easier way to sign on, without blocking everyone, and have no one see you. On the screenname that you signed on to, that you typed in the Sign On box, I am assuming is Baby 2, go to Manage Linked SN’s and click the box that say Baby1 Invisible at Sign On… but also change your privacy on Baby1 so all Users, or only Users on your BL to contact you. Thats what fixed my problem… it was something with the shared BL and whatnot. But this way on Baby1 you are invisible at sign on and you can actaully see when they really sign on and off, and they dont know youre on

MemberWow, that is odd indeed. Since evokenescience has experienced the exact same thing, I can only assume that’s the issue.
