MemberHi everyone
Something strange has been happening in the last few weeks when I log into messenger.I get a heap of offline messages which seem to be sent whilst I am in a chat room. The problem is I was not logged in at that time and haven’t been into chat rooms for years. No one else who uses this PC has access to my accounts or passwords and they are way too technophobic to even know where to begin.
I changed my password several times and ran AVG virus scanner and it is still happening.
Does anyone have any idea on what is happening here. It seems as if someone is using my id to go into chat rooms. My account is still accessible and it is quite disturbing that someone is doing this.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

MemberIt could be someone on your buddy list just messing with you,if you havent been in chat rooms in years then it would be harder for chat room spammers to locate you but not impossible. What type of pm’s are we talking about here? Are they just received pms like “hey I seen you in **** room, add me to your list,or visit my link” or do they look like replies.Check your archives.Worse case scenario, you have been keylogged but I doubt it as your account would probably be gone by now, that is unless they wanted to keep track of your conversations secretly,AVG is a good scanner and it should pick up any keylogger if there is one present, but you could go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ just for a second check.

MemberIf you are receiving these offlines from people you used to know, it could be someone “spamming” or someone who has gotten a hold of an account from your freinds, and sent out a mass pm, to get you to talk to them.
If you run any kind of third party program (for example) buddy spy, this program will actually go into a room to find out what room a user is in and then pop back out. So watch what programs you use, and how you are logged into those programs.

MemberThanks for the responses.
It happened again today.
The offline messages that I am getting seem to be sent when I am actually in a room at that time. It seems that my id has been in a room, logged out and messages are being sent not long after that. From the timing of the offline messages they are all within about a 10 minute time frame from lots of different id’s Ihave never heard of. It seems as if the id logs out and messages are sent until the senders realise they are logged out, then they stop. None of them are spam messages.
It worries me as one was a very abusive message as if the sender had been having an argument with my id!!!
Any ideas?

MemberHi, CCC – and welcome to.. BBB 😉
Sorry, no ideas here, but I hope you’ve seen a very similar problem to yours, posted here by Crickle just a few days ago.
Perhaps you two could share ideas ?February 8, 2006 at 2:11 pm #137985terminator_xp
Memberhi ccc i think u cant do anything in that case coz some one is copying ur id n puttin it into chat rooms.u can copy any id with certain softwares.or some one is stealing ur password regularly by trojan.try some anti trojan softwares to keep ur password a secret or try to download “stinger” its a quick scaning software.search for it in google n scan ur pc for trojans.hope it will work out.
