MemberAs you can see this Link, Jason one of the members of AIMutation (The person who programed it) has decided to quit, and to stop programming AIMutation, so there won’t be any new AIMutation versions for a long time.

ParticipantThat post looks fairly suspicious, to be honest. That’s a rather blunt “i quit” message, and i dont know that the creator of a program wouldnt even use it, and then cite another program as being more than his could ever be… I wouldn’t necessarily put too much stock in that bit of news.

MemberWell Jason is one of the people who made AIMutation but the other people left and hasn’t come back so it was just Jason programming AIMutation (the program). And since he had school in his way so he couldn’t program much and decided to quit

Participantwhere is all this extra information coming from? some other post on the AIMutation forums? even though i dont use AIMutation and dont visit their forums, I would still tend to doubt that he’d quit that abruptly.

The Information I got it from is because I asked around the place, like the Admin who is usually idle around the forums.November 22, 2005 at 12:01 am #132446DragonSlayerz
MemberAlso now the aimutation site is no longer avaliable, if you want aiMutation ver 1.2, and 1.3.2 Im me on any messengers and I’ll happily give it to you.

MemberThe new AIMutation website is http://www.versoworks.com/aimutation/
As stated in this post http://www.versoworks.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1998Edit- Versoworks post has been erased. Reason is still unknown.

MemberOh yea and also if you have any problems with aiMutation contact me for questions.

MemberWhat is actually funny is that the project was handed down to me directly from em, yet I wasn’t even contacted about the site coming down.
What interests me is the fact that I have been developing aiMutation 2.0 behind the scenes, working on a plugin framework in .Net 2.0, and I even updated the status bar on the website, yet no one said a word to me about it.
Now with that said, I just posted a few messages on the Versoworks site, only to have them deleted within minutes of posting them. Then I was banned from the forum. Interesting indeed. Well it doesn’t hurt that I still have full control over the aiMutation project on Sourceforge, but I guess that doesn’t really matter without the domain name.
I haven’t been checking into the site on a regular basis because I got tired of explaining that it would be out when its out. I got tired of hearing people say that the project was dead. I knew that it wasn’t dead and that was good enough for me. I was planning to release the plugin architecture as soon as it was done so people could see that progress has been made. No one cares about that though. Looks like I will be taking my work and applynig it to a different project since people seem to care so little about a FREE AIM add-on.

MemberLodicarus your work was very much appreciated by me and I bet many other guys that were able to enjoy your work. It stinks it all had to go down like this though. Just out of curisiosity what did you post on the Versoworks boards?
As you can see even that post in which em talked about Aimutation moving to a new page was erased. It seems that everything was flipped upside down after Jason posted that quitting message.December 7, 2005 at 11:23 pm #132437lordicarus
MemberBasically my posts were the same as the one above. I had no knowledge of aiMutation being shut down until I realized the website was turned off. Oren and I never really used aimutation.com for anything other than status updates so we didn’t check into that site regularly. With all of the popups that some of the “admins” on that messageboard put on the site I really stopped caring about aimutation.com but aiMutation the project was never out of my mind. I had full intentions on releasing aiMutation 2.0 when the time was right, but whatever happened with Em, Tracy, and Jason… and whoever else was involved… well that was out of my control, and in fact I have no knowledge of it either. Em responded to me in an email that basically said that I should send my code to him to put on the site, but he is no longer in control of the project, he merely owns aimutation.com. When he handed the source code down to me a long time ago, I was put in charge of the project. Why this all happened is beyond me, but apparently, due to whatever happened, aiMutation is in I would say… a state of purgatory. No matter though, with AIM Triton out aiMutation, DeadAIM, MiddleMan, and Messenger:Mate are all incompatible.
Fear not though… messenger:mate will have competition once the SDK for Triton is finalized… at least there will be another option.

MemberI can’t wait for an add-on for AIM Triton
December 8, 2005 at 3:49 am #132442ridv34
MemberMe neither. Although I have an M:M subscription for a very long time, I wouldn’t mind using another plug in if it was better. And there is also the question, will there even be a M:M for Triton? Either way, I’m glad you will be making one for Triton because this way I’m sure there is someone out there that will turn Triton into a usable app.
It must really suck to have a project end in such an awkward way. I’m really not going to stand here criticize or praise em’s actions but all I’m going to say is that in my opinion, they weren’t the right ones. But just remember the end of one thing is merely the begging of another. Can’t wait until that SDK is done and Triton is turned into a usable program by some awesome programmers.
By the way, do you have any idea what languages will be able to make use of the API of the SDK?
December 8, 2005 at 4:17 am #132438lordicarus
MemberAs far as Triton development, any language that supports COM can interface with Triton through the API they are creating. The only thing available as of now though is the type library, which, with a little creativity could yield plugins right now, but since the library isn’t open yet and things could change very easily it isn’t worth putting too much time into developing something that could be completely broken when they release the API.
As far as Mauro’s actions, the way it appears is that it was a selfish action considering the fact that aimutation points to versoworks.com, but I really am not included in the details of what happened, so there is no way for me to say conclusively what the intentions are, and I am guessing that it is better that way. From speaking with Em, it seems logical and reasonable that the situation is simply better off the way it is, and it is not about selfishness or anything like that.
I have not abandoned the aiMutation community, and I hope that em hasn’t either. I guess only time will tell… Triton is really the future of AIM and neither em nor myself can do anything to change that. I wasn’t in it for the money, and em made a good point to me, he wasn’t in it for that either. Hell, it was his idea in the first place years ago to make aiMutation an open source project…. we shall see what happens now.

MemberJust for the record, I made a few comments that were uncalled for. They have since been modified to better reflect the situation, and my feelings toward the people involved. I did not mean to accuse Em of harmful intentions in respect to what has happened with aiMutation, I simply was angry for being kept out of the loop.
