Participantis there a way to control the aim sound apart from the computer sound? I like my music up really loud but then the aim sounds are so loud and scare me when someones signs on or off. I do have it checked that I dont want to hear any IM sounds but I like to hear the door sounds. so does anyone know of a way to have seperate controls?
i could be mistaken but I do remember when I had my old computer I did this some how.. I could just be thinking this tho and be lying.

It sounds like they want to just turn them down, not off completly.
It seems to be for me that if winamp’s volume is set to be 100% then it is much louder then any IM sounds. (I keep the main volume and wav volume in windows settings both at 50%). Myself.. I usually keep winamp at 30% volume, and at this level it is about the same as IM or other sounds. So turning it up to 100% it gets much louder. This is probably on a per sound card basis…and there is no way I know of to just turn IM sounds down.

MemberYou can use the sound recorder in windows.
Open the sound file (*:Program FilesAIMSounds) in the sound recorder built into Windows. Go to Effects -> Decrease Volume (do this as many times as you want.
Now save it.
Your done.

Participantthe sound recorder is built into Windows, just like Dr Drrae said. its usually in the “Start Menu>Program Files>Accessories>Entertainment” folder… open that up, open the file, etc etc. sound recorder isnt part of AIM
please reread Dr Drrae’s post

Member1. Go to “Start -> Run” then type “%SystemRoot%System32sndrec32.exe”.
2. File -> Open -> *:Program FilesAIMSounds
3. Once one of the sound files are opened go to
Effects -> Decrease Volume (do this as many times as you want)4. File -> Save
Now redo steps 2, 3, and 4 with the rest of the sound files in that directory.

Participantwell what operating system do you have? Windows _____? what version? the sound recorder is a utility that allows you to *slightly* edit .wav files, which is the format that AIM uses for its sounds. one of the things that soundrecorder allows you to do is increase or decrease the volume of a .wav file and then save it at that lower volume. so when AIM plays back the sound, no matter what your system volume is set to, it will be quieter
does that make sense? if nothing else I can watch for you online and talk you through it
