This is NO rumour. The virus being spread is not detectable by McAfee Virus scanners. So therefore it can easily spread itself through hotmail accounts.
It is received from DAEMON-MAILER@hotmail.com. The email uses an MIME exploit which triggers the virus without having to download the attachment.
So dont open it and remove it immediately. Once the virus has installed itself into the computer it uses the msn SMTP server to propagate itself using any email addresses it can find on the local system.
Also if the virus finds Kazaa on the computer it will put itself into the Shared Folder, and enable file sharing.

Yep ive been getting the exact same emails from my friends (posted in an old message) but the problem is, my junk mail filter does not select those messages because they are being received from people in my address book!! so thats annoyoing, but yeh, i no now that wheneva i get one of those emails, i just delete it….its bad tho…in the past i have actually opened it before i knew what it was

It has been debunked there n FYI tho Trend Micro may have only ‘discovered’ it in Jul2-02, McAfee were the original discoverer way back in Feb-02, therefore if your use McAffee or Norton AV software for protection this is a non event.
As an aside, how is the non detection by McAfee related to the ability to spread thru Hotmail? Somebody here is holding more than just loose change in his pockets.
