MemberHi All,
I think I have spyware or Adaware on my PC.
It is running rather slow, only had it less than a year & there is plenty of RAM etc.
It hasnt shown up with Norton, so I need a freebie program to rid my PC of this menace.Any got any ideas please?
Thanks very much in advance.

ParticipantTry Lavasoft Ad-Aware and Spybot out for a spin and see if they find anything.
Also, little things that you’ve installed over the year may have added startup items, you can check by seeing how much you have running near your clock in that tray, all those things add up and slow your system down. If you have items you need to disable do this:
Start >>> Run >>> “MSCONFIG” (No quotes) >>> Start-Up Tab >>> Uncheck items not needed >>> Apply

MemberI use Ad-Aware and Spybot also, and they work great for me. Don’t forget to get the updates for both of them before you run a scan.

MemberIf, after you run adaware and spybot and clean up msconfig, you still have problems, let us know and there’s another thing we can check.

MemberWindows Defender is free and good. It will usually detect more than spybot and ad-aware. Microsoft bought the company. At the time that product was one of the best antispyware products.

“Windows Genuine Advantage plug-in” at 858kb before the 4.9mb program on dial up?! Hours of irritation and limited quality. MS can suck my ass. -_- I can’t wait for broadband!

ParticipantAnother good anti-spyware program I have found is SUPERAntiSpyware.com – AntiAdware, AntiSpyware, AntiMalware! tripped over this program one day when working on a friends well infested computer and adware and spybot were not able to handle the problems that were there. This little beauty took out everything they couldn’t handle and found things that they had missed.
