MemberThe Star Wars Trilogy will be released on DVD on September 21st. Also, on the same day, the Star Wars Battlefront game will be released.
Quote:quote:starwars.comThe most requested films for the DVD format will finally become a reality this September as Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox present the eagerly-awaited Star Wars Trilogy for the ultimate home entertainment format. The four-disc collection will be released on September 21 in the U.S. and Canada, with international release dates following closely.
“We know how long fans have waited for this release and how much they have been looking forward to it, so everyone has been working overtime to make sure that the Star Wars Trilogy on DVD is an awesome experience,” said Jim Ward, Vice President of Marketing and Distribution for Lucasfilm Ltd. and the DVD collection’s Executive Producer.Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi will be available in a four-disc set that includes a bonus disc filled with all-new special features — including the most comprehensive feature-length documentary ever produced about the Star Wars saga and never-before-seen footage from the making of all three films. Each of the three films in the Star Wars Trilogy has been digitally restored and re-mastered by THX for superior sound and picture quality.
“First and foremost, the DVDs will deliver the very best possible sound and picture and take advantage of everything the medium can offer. On top of that, we are creating added-value material that gets inside the creation of the Star Wars films in a fresh and fun way,” Ward said. “We want watching this DVD collection to be as memorable as seeing the movies for the first time.”
The films of the Star Wars Trilogy will be available exclusively as a collection and will feature Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround EX. All three films are closed-captioned and subtitled in English, French and Spanish in the U.S. Internationally, sound and subtitling specifications will vary by territory.

KeymasterI’ve got the new trilogy (wide-screen version, of course). Anyone know what exactly (if anything) has been changed or added to these versions?

MemberIGN has a list of the changes.
Quote:quote:
Episode IV: A New Hope- Lots of matte lines removed. The space under Luke’s speeder looks much more realistic.
- R2D2’s blue parts are much cleaner and more consistent.
- The 1997 animation added to the entrance to Mos Eisley is much smoother.
- Greedo and Han shoot at the same time, and Han’s dodge is far more realistic.
- Jabba has been retexturized and looks considerably better. Han still walks on his tail, but it’s much smoother.
- The lettering on various Death Star panels are written in Aurebesh rather than English.
- The matte-painted hall in Leia’s detention block looks much more realistic.
- Lightsabers look much better. Colors are brighter and the blades are more defined. The one exception is Luke’s. His white bladed saber, seen when practicing on the Falcon, looks the same.
Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
- Ian McDiarmid has refilmed scenes as the Emperor instead of that near-fossil they had.
- The conversations between Vader and Palpatine has a few new lines. Palpatine knows that Luke is Vader’s son.
- Light sabers are again fixed, making them more consistent.
- Temuera Morrison does the voice of Boba Fett
- Luke’s inane scream when he jumps to escape Vader on Cloud City is gone. And there was much rejoicing.
Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
- Like the other two, the light sabers are fixed.
- The Rancor looks considerably better, with its matte lines removed.
- When Vader’s helmet is removed, his eyebrows are gone and his eyes are recolored to match Hayden’s.
- Celebrations on Naboo, Coruscant and one other planet, where a statue is toppled right before we see the celebration with the ewoks.
- Perhaps this was in the 1997 special editions, but in the various background shots of the new Death Star, its appearance changes and you can see progress as the station takes shape.
- Hayden Christensen replaces Sebastian Shaw as Anakin’s ghost. Lucas explains this in the commentary, which is spoilerish for Episode III.

Participanti particularly like the part about Anakin’s ghost looking like the Anakin we know now… that’s awesome. Vader’s eyes you dont notice too much, but its cool that they went to that amount of detail. I think the rest is pretty much expected, like the fixing of the matte lines (especially the rancor).
