MemberFor almost a week now me and 2 of my friends have been experiencing a quite bizare problem:even if we are invisible we apear online to eachother and even to other people from time to time….there is no problem in our stealth settings….it probably is a protocol bug….has anyone experienced something like it or has an idea about solving it?

Memberyou can try going to your profile edit page and seeing if the little box for showing if you are on line is checked or not. this sometimes can make you appear online to your friends when you wish to be seen off line. let us know if that helps please.

ParticipantI had the same problem a few times… I haven’t had it recently, as far as I know, no one has mentioned it… But I could never figure out what the problem was.

MemberI’ve had the same problem, people messaging me when I’m invisible and saying I show as online to them. It’s mainly been about a week for me too and I have no idea why, but it’s definitely annoying, …sorry I can’t be of any actual help other than to say you’re not alone.

MemberBy setting your preferences in your YM and clicking options when presented to you like in yahoo games and profile editing is about the best you can do to either show your on line or off line. But the best tool we have folks is ourselves and explaining to our friends that no program is without flaws.
Take time to educate yourselves and your friends that nothing is perfect and sometimes when things appear to be one way does not mean they are.
example being I had an account that I closed and although it was closed it showed I remained on line for a week when indeed that account was shut down.
why these things happen are usually a program glitch.
I agree it can be a real pain explaining to those on your buddy list that you do not know why it showed you online when you were not but the point is that it does happen.
So when something like this happens I tell my friends it was just yahoo messing up again because if I were on you know I would never ignore you.

MemberWell, I am invisible to some one, I have my settings all done well, as I am WELL educated in Yahoo! and the ways to stay stealth on it. This person still seemed to know I was on, I doubt the person knows about Buddy Spy. So I am guessing there is something with the servers, as they are doing more updates. This kind of thing generally happens with Yahoo! when they are working on changes. Luckily for me, I was AFK, just really surprised this person was like, “Oh, you are online. Are you going to say something to me now?” Some one I accidently re-added the other day when I got the message to add again (probably this person updated their version). Anyway, I am not sure what can really be done about the situation except wait it out, Yahoo! will fix it. 🙂 (It would just still be nice to have a warnig when they are messing with things and to be told that some features might be temporarily bugged…ahhh well…not a perfect world 🙂 )
:new: One thing I forgot to add, if you are using Yahoo! messenger in more than one place (not at the same time, but on different PCs at different times) you need to make sure the privacy settings are done for each of those. However, I still think the problem lies in that Yahoo! is playing with things to see what they can accomplish with Beta. 🙂
EDIT: As I was posting this first edit the moron I have on appear premanently offline messaged me, it says I currently appear offline to the person, yet the person knows I am on….so yup…things are indeed not working 😐May 18, 2006 at 12:52 pm #144708VeryBoredMale
MemberYahoo is once again getting “glitchy”. I have people on my buddy list that show up online both in messenger and e-messenger, but in my address book and my mobile yahoo they appear as offline. It’s probably related to Yahoo changing servers with the the debut of their new “homepage” on 5/16.

MemberThis problem has been annoying me all day!I have a group of people that i’m offline to and i’m online for everybody else.I havent had any problems with it til now but it seems that now if i change my status to something custom,i appear online to that group too.I have no idea how to change this but its one of the reasons i stopped using Trillian…just hope they fix it soon cause i like my custom status but i also like my privacy, meaning i dont want that specific group of people seeying my status!
By the way i have messenger 7,XP SP2,the privacy option is set to not let sites show i’m online, basically i’ve done everything to ensure i dont have such issues…May 20, 2006 at 7:08 pm #144707niq6566
MemberAlot of people are having problems with stealth settings at the moment. It seems to me as if (sometimes) when you log in as “invisible” you appear online to all contacts on your list who aren’t set to “permanently offline”.
I’m not sure if this works for everyone but it did for me (checked it with a friend):
I set everyone on my list to “Permanently offline”, then logged out and in again. This time i appeared invisible to everyone on my list (and to all other users too). Afterwards i could change to “available/online” for those on my list i wanted to know i’m online. Its not a real fix to the issue, but at least keeps me from getting bombarded with IMs every time i sign in 🙂

MemberI am running 7.0.2.120 and am also having problems with one person in my list who sees me on line even though I have the person set as permanently offline. This person apparently also knows if I am using my webcam. As far as I can tell all my settings are set properly to avoid this.. including checking the offline option in my profile. Any suggestions as to how to guard against this?
Thanks

MemberThe person might have buddy spy…in which case….well…they can tell no matter what you do. You MAY want to use the Deny-a-Buddy. It takes YOUR name off the other person’s list and then you can set your settings accept IMs and whatnot only from people on whose list you appear. That may not solve the problem, but it is something you can try.
