MemberYou are strongly advised not to mess with that folder. What I’m missing here though is the name of the antivirus software. 🙂

MemberIf you can’t get rid of the Trojan Horse, through use of the antivirus software, then unfortunately you might want to back-up files that you really need, (make sure the files that you back up are clean and not infected) and re-format your hard drive. This is a last resort though, and as DJ said, can you tell us the name of your antivirus software please?
Thanks.

MemberOkay, now which of those programs reports to you about the trojan? Also, could you provide more information about the trojan, like, it’s name?

MemberMy mom’s computer also has a trojan in the system volume info folder. She also has AVG and SpyBot. I tried everything to get rid of it. The AVG keeps popping up saying you have…name of trojan..I believe it’s called Downloader BHO or something like that…in the c:systemvolume information…Please run AVG to remove. I’ve done that. When I run the AVG it comes up clean. I’ve ran spy bot. I even went to symantec and ran their virus check and it also came up clean. I also googled the name of the trojan with no luck. I’m going over to my mom’s tomorrow so I will write down all the info and post tomorrow evening. Any other suggestions as to how to get rid of this trojan short of reformatting?

MemberThe name of the Trojan horse is Spooner A I believe.
The message is given by AVG and says that it has been spotted in c:system volume information_restore(then a whole bucnch of numbers)
then it says to clean it run AVG for windows but if you do the run comes up clean.August 2, 2004 at 1:32 pm #75252oxbow70

ParticipantYou’ll need to grant access to this folder to yourself to remove the Trojan. Are you running Windows XP Professional or Home Edition?
If it’s pro then you need to disable ‘Simple File Sharing’ in the Tools > Folder Options menu. Then go to the properties of the system volume information folder > Security tab. Now add yourself as a user, and give yourself full access. You should now have access to the folder, and you can clean it out.
If you have XP Home Edition, then you need to boot into Safe Mode to user File Security (F8 before the boot screen).
