that article was too funny, everyone should read it, (on the front page) I too got a virus last week, i thought it was odd cuz i think it said something like the wallpaper i requested (thank god!!!) and i knew i hadn’t, but it said it was from microsoft, thank god my b/f was here cuz i said something about it and he told me wut it was, otherwise curiousity could have gotten the better of me and i would have opened it just to see wut it was (cuz i’m not real familiar with viruses anyway). It is unfortunate that humans are such curious creatures, cuz u know that’s the only reason that ppl open those things, and the creators know it, tha is why they r so successful. But if i had infected our whole system, i would gladly laugh with everyone else at my picture on the idiot of the week poster, lol!
Great article – I agree!! I feel the same way. October you need to get a virus scanner on your computer that scans incoming mail ASAP!!! Next to common sense this is your best tool against viruses, I personally use Norton Antivirus and no complaints here. It scans and pops up a warning and deletes any incoming or outgoing mail with viruses. If you don’t wanna fork out the dollars, I’m not sure if they offer a demo to d/l, but you can find it on kazaa. Try it for a while and then buy the software, its well worth the investment! http://www.symantec.com
I get those all the time, they keep spreading because of people that have no common sense whatsoever. Why would anyone sen you a .PIF, .DLL, .BAT, or anything else?
Use common sense.
Or for the people who dont know any better, and think someone is sending them a free screen saver?
Be fare to the ones who dont know any better. I guess they have to learn one way or another.OK, Then STILL you shouldn’t open anything that you don’t know who it came from, EVEN it it’s Microsoft. Why? It’s not hard to hijack a Mialserver and make it seem like it’s from Microsoft, but not.
Hey… all I’m saying is that if someone wants to open a email from someone they dont know… thats their beef.
Let them deal with the concenquinces. They are warned all over the place.
And many virsus’ dont affect your computer unless they are downloaded. Just make sure you run the email companty’s anti-virus and your own to be safe.I know there are a lot of smart people who have configured their email software to automatically delete ANY email that has an attachment. Their friends know that if they want to send them a file, don’t send it via email.
Others do the same for any email in HTML format. If you define the rules of engagement between you and your friends (i.e. don’t send me any screensavers), then you don’t even need to think about deleting that “free screensaver” email… you just do it!
ok, i have norton, so i’m safe there, sorda. that email i got, i deleted immediately as soon as i found out, i didn’t open it or d/l the screensaver or wallpaper or wutever. i use yahoo, so i don’t know if it scans it for me, or if norton does for that matter…. i did get something some how, but not from that, i got some cracks last week, it could have been attached to one of those, lol but it was found and quarentined, and luckily didn’t get on anything, screw up our system, or get uploaded for others to d/l, yay!!! thank god my b/f is an ex senior mcse.
