ParticipantOkay, as of today, when i try to log in into most sites, when i hit “sign in” “log in” etc., I get “the page cannot be displayed” error. This happens when i try to log into my Yahoo Mail, when i try to log into my Mobile Website to check my cell phone activity, my bank accounts, etc. (things that require me to log in). Anyone know why this happens and how i can fix it? Sorry if this has been asked before but as far as i’ve been searching i can’t find a solution.

ParticipantHmm… one thing that jumps to mind is the possibility that you might be “working offline” – go to your file menu and see if “Work Offline” is checked. if it is, uncheck it. if not, then we’ll just have to figure out what it might be.

ParticipantIt’s not checked and I also deleted cookies and such and still the same problem. I downloaded both Firefox and Opera and both won’t connect, so i started looking at my norton internet security. I turned it completely off and that’s when everything started working again. I have nothing again norton internet security and it has always been working fine so i don’t understand why suddenly it’s doing this. Any ideas how to change the settings without having to have it turned off completely.

ParticipantI found this little article, hopely that is what you are trying to do (scroll down a bit, it’s got a guide to indiviual program control, at least that sounds like what you’re asking).

YES! For some odd reason all browsers were being secured (therefore blocked), and it would let me only use Internet Explorer to some extent. After changing the settings on each program it allows me to sign in without the error page and i can use any browser. Thanks for all the help. 🙂Was still wondering why it started doing that all of a sudden, but some programs are weird like that.

It’s likely that there was an entry for firefox.exe in NIS, but firefox updated itself and therefore the core firefox.exe and NIS detected a modified version of the file. I think, that if NIS detects a different version of a file marked as safe, it will change the policy for that executable to one that is more strict. The idea is that if something has modified a file, it won’t be able to access the internet and send information.
