MemberWhat did you all think about Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ”? Personally, I loved it. I am of the Christian religion and this movie really got to me spiritually and mentally, at times I could barely look at the movie screen. To think, one man could take all that pain for all of this people is incredible.
The movie was amazing, it really makes you think. I think Mel Gibson did an excellent job of portraying what happened during Jesus Christ’s last few hours. When you go and read the writings about what happened, its like you are watching the movie all over again, the lines are the exact same. What did you all of think of the movie?

MemberI loved it. I am a Christian also, which many of you can tell by my signature, and to think that Jesus’ crucifiction in the movie actually happened really made me think. Some of the scenes were really gory, and I can usually watch a ton of “bad guys” get shot and tortured or whatver and not get faced, but it really got to me when they were whipping Jesus. Also when they hammered the nails through his hands and feet.

ParticipantAnother Christian here. I didn’t want to see this movie due to all the hype…but I finally decided to go see it, and I am glad that I did. It was very powerful and like magistyk said it was hard to look at the screen during certain scenes. I really looked at my life and saw that I was complaining over trivial things like homework and school, after seeing the movie I realized worrying about those things is not imporatnt at all. I have read the Bible and I know the stroy, but seeing it is different…we are very visual beings. I am much more positive now, realizing what the God of all things did just for measily little old me. This film is great, despite minor inconsitencies some people have pointed out. The main point of the movie is ‘God is love’ and that point was very clear and well done.

Memberwell…
since everybody’s starting off their posts with their religion… I’m atheist. it was a really powerful movie (as I believe the consensus is…) and it actually got me thinking. I would say I’m 95% atheist and 5% agnostic (just because the existence or non-existence of God can’t be determined), and watching the movie started to make me feel guilty for being atheist and if God does exist, imagine how blasphemous atheism is to take Christ’s sufferings for granted.
but now because it’s been a while since i’ve seen the movie, the effects of the movie have worn off and now i’m back to atheism.
i wasn’t relaly thinking when I wrote this post so nothing makes sense (gramatticaly at the least)April 6, 2004 at 11:07 pm #82647dme
MemberI was baptised as a Roman Catholic, but lost it along life’s path, and somewhere between agonistic and atheist now.
With respect to the film, on leaving the movie you are left speachless, images of blood, pain, suffering and sorrow inscribed onto your mind. Forget the concept of a plot, perhaps beacase the story is so well known. Besides, in addition to the use of sub titles, in the first scene, the Garden of Gethsemani , the acting seemed a little unnatural. The special effects, such as the raindrop falling after the crucifiction were few, but utilised highly effectively, as where the symbolism, such as the snake in the Garder Of Gethsemani, the crow at the crucifiction, and satan with a child at the scourging. I’d say that the scourging is the most ‘memorable’ scene in the film.
Personally, I enjoyed the film as a blockbuster, however It did not change my beliefs, either towards Christianity again, niether did I feel anti-Semitist. The reason being that I went to watch the film solely as a film and nothing more; determined not to be moved in any way. However, I’d say It’s the film you MUST watch at least once in a lifetime. Way above Ben Hur, Titanic, LotR or any other Classic

Quote:quote:Well im luthren, but I have my ideas about god not belifes because god cant be harnest in a book or a movie.I havent seen the movie yet but I hear it was realistic compared to what other movies have protrade. I do also belive in evoloution if you can belive in both. God isnt what people say sure he may judge you when you die but its not satan who makes you do bad things. I guess if you dont belive in god in the old days you may not have been as likely to do the right thing, but if you are kind and do all the things that god wants you too when you die Im sure it will change gods point of view.
All said and done what god is, is a thought that may change your thought on right and wrond, jesus may or may not be god but if he is isnt it better just to pray. Because if there is a god its better and if there isnt which im not saying there isnt then no harm done.
What makes me mad is that people just say they are athesis and dont belive in god because of what a HUMAN being may have done to them in the past, if you dont belive in god its because of lack of proof. Then again it was said to be impossible to travle to the the moon, and people thought the world was flat at one point, and that heat was a gas that moves from one object to another, and that there was no trojan horse… With science comes the disproving of god but then again later we may find proof of him existing.
So what does this movie potray, it potrays a more realistic version of jesus as a man how god made him the way hes beaten like a man and the way he is killed by his friends as a man.
If god is loving and we are all his children then why is there hell well, maby there isnt maby there is. Its a happy median which makes up belifes and religion and ideas of god. I belive this movie has not infringed upon anyone and that anyone will like this move even the non beliver.

I loved that movie, I could understand 90% of the latin language they were speaking. I think it was exactly how it happened and I can’t wait until the DVD comes out.:D
