MemberSo I bought a PS2 game (almost one year ago!) in Ireland, and I was not thinking our PS2 would not play it…but…alas it won’t. After almost one year of looking for an easy solution (on and off that is) I’ve decided to hear it from our experts. Am I just going to have to go back to Ireland (or europe) to play this game? It’s in PAL and of course that’s not what PS2’s or most anything does here in the States.
I heard there’s some sort of chip I have to buy…but is there an easier solution like a hack code or something of that sort? And before some one says “Just buy it here in the States!” It will not be released here in the States any time in the near future…if ever. (That’s why I bought it when we were there.)December 22, 2006 at 6:52 pm #155300Google Guru

MemberOreo,
I’ve been watching this topic – awaiting a reply (I find it interesting) – and thought you may want to consider moving this topic into the computer section.
I’ve heard there are two methods of doing what you want, one is the chip, and the other is boot loader discs. I don’t know enough about either to post.
If anyone knows about chips & mods, it will definitely be a geek. Besides a lot of computer nerds are also gamers!

ParticipantA few things to try. Firstly, if you own a multi-system TV, bonus! If not (which probably you do not), read on :p
Don’t worry about the multi-region TV issue, if you use a proper SCART lead then it wont be a problem.
As for playing said games on your NA PS2, you need to look into the various mod chips and such that are available.
Firstly, if your PS2 is a newer, slimline PS2 (with the drop down lid) then you can get away with it by downloading a special boot disk and messing with some of the buttons under the lid (there’s 3 I believe, but if you google around then you’ll be able to find many helpful guides explaining it all) – no mod chips required.
If it’s an older PS2, the fat ones, then it gets a bit tricky. You either can get a mod chip, which must be soldered onto part of the motherboard (you’ll have to find someone to do this for you if you’re not confident about it yourself) or the slightly less awkward route, of replacing the plastic shell the PS2 has with one that has an open top lid (so it kinda makes it a fat version of the newer, slimline PS2’s) so you can use the boot disks.December 30, 2006 at 9:40 am #155299Byppn
