I received an IM from an old acquaintance who told me that she found a “way” to now see if a buddy is online but what really got me was that she said she found a way to determine what aliases that buddy uses. In other words, i log on as zach321 with my friend. Secretly I use zach987 with my friend’s girlfriend and chat with her. My friend claims she knows of a way to determine if I’m online AND see what other aliases I use. Has anyone heard of this or is she just talking smack?

IF its an alias you are using under a default id…When she scans the default id, you will appear on-line if you are logged onto a alias, but as has been said, finding the alias id’s name is still not known to be easily found but might be possible but not likey. And she’s not “smacking you” as was said, but yes, “talking smack.”
Do you happen to chat in the same circles? Some one may have clued her off that it was your ID. OR perhaps you chat in the same chatroom and she suspected it was you by the way you typed and figured it out?

Thanks for all the replies. Too bad it isn’t possible.. would have been cool.

Unless it has changed, If you go into your messenger menu, you can go into “my Profiles” and from there you can choose active or inactive. You’ll have to do that whenever you want their statuses to change. Hope this helps 🙂
