MemberOkay …… one of our id’s are locked. The first time we tried to log on, it said invalid login so we clicked “Login Problems” and had a new password generated. Tried logging into messenger w/the new password .. nothing. We’re able to log into my yahoo, mail, everything except messenger. We’ve never gotten a message that the account is locked so we haven’t had an option to have a link sent to the alternate email to unlock the account. Tried going to different servers to login and “reset” the default server … no luck (was one member’s suggestion I found while searching these forums). Tried going to http://login.yahoo.com/config/login b/c we read that if you’re account is locked, you should get a failed first try and a word verification login the second time … that should unlock the account … and you should be good to go. Didn’t work. This is a problem on both of our computers .. one running XP on a P4 and the other running 98 on a P2 (400mHz).
Any suggestions? All of our other ID’s are logging in fine. Thanks to anyone that provides help! :=)February 29, 2004 at 11:56 pm #48869rafaelemt
MemberHi
Your problem has happened to me many times, and most of them has todo with someone on the chatroom sending a boot code to lock your account. As far as I know the only way to resolve it is to wait a few days maybe 4 in order for Yahoo to reset the account. Be patient it will work if you just wait.

MemberYeah… that’s pretty much what we figured. Funny thing is … we’re running ytunnel and are cloaked. There are 3 specific booters that try to get us but when they fail … they resort to name calling and such. So I’m wondering how did they even get the account locker to us to begin with. Noone knows our main ID that is cloaked. And we also changed our default nic.

ParticipantOur super duper Yahoo FAQ says this:
Quote:quote:Why has my Account been locked for Security Reasons?
Your account has been locked due to that fact that someone has frequently attempted to login under your name with an incorrect password. It is likely then that someone has made multiple attempts to crack or guess your password and gain access to your account. The Locking Ban usually lasts between 12-48hrs, continually trying to access the account could prolong the ban. Try this: Go to http://login.yahoo.com/config/login and the first login will fail, second verifies that its not a bot attempting more guesses (word verification systems). If it lasts more than 48hrs after, try contacting Yahoo! at cc-advoc@yahoo-inc.com.March 2, 2004 at 2:32 am #48873j_n_alize
MemberYes … I saw the super duper FAQ post … lol. I just wanted to make sure we had covered all of the bases. Like I said .. we’re cloaked and consider ourselves “unbootable” being that our usual “friends” haven’t been able to boot us since we’ve been cloaked. So it’s hard for me to believe someone sent an account locker given we’re cloaked.

MemberIf an account is locked from too many pw attempts, this lasts for 12 hours exactly, after the account is initially locked, I don’t care what anyone else tells you, this is a fact. If you’re account after 12 hours still doesn’t work then it’s not locked. Yes if you login you unlock you’re id, but the problem is with messenger not regular yahoo, my only advice is to add a new profile to you’re account, and try to login to messenger with the new profile.

MemberYes … that’s what happened. We were able to log into the other id yesterday with no problems. Given that the only problem was with messenger … that’s definitely what happened.
Thanks!!

When you are booted w/ a boot code.
It does not lock your account.
And it especially wont lock your account in the manner of speaking here.
This lock was probably placed on her account for one of two reasons.
1.) the account was used to boot.
2.) this account was reported to yahoo via the abuse form.
And from what I have read about the post.
That is what it sounds like to me.
In order to have that ban lifted you would need to call up Yahoo!.
