There are probably minor fixes, things you wouldnt notice.
You can read all about the new features in Trillian 2.0 beta here.
There aren’t many earth-shattering features on the surface. Many of the enhancments don’t really make sense unless you’ve been using Trillian for a while. It’s very significant that they are extending support for third-party developers to create plug-ins that allow interoperability with new networks (like Jabber).
its nothing great that should be made into version 2 though….maybe 1.x or something…….when a version goes up a whole number, it should have some significant changes……
Well, the significant changes are under the hood; the core of Trillian has been pretty heavily rewritten.
Making the entire program support Unicode was a pretty major change, and took a great deal of work. Rewriting the entire windowing and skinning system was non-trivial. Exposing all of Trillian’s internals to the plugin system was another non-trivial change. Setting up the Pro codebase so that it can be changed into the free codebase (i.e. Pro 2.0 can be used to make the base for an upcoming rerelease of Free) was non-trivial.
There’s actually more changed code between Pro 1.0 and Pro 2.0 than there was between 0.7x and Pro. The thing is that all the time and effort was spent on the underlying stuff, so there’s not a lot of new glitz on the surface. However, 2.0 has major changes in what can be done, so as people make skins and plugins to take advantage of these features, you’ll see major stuff that could never have been done under Pro 1.0.
