Scott Werndorfer yesterday announced that Google has unceremoniously dropped Trillian instant messenger from the Google Pack.
Scott’s post on the Cerulean Studios developer’s blog says “Trillian is no longer included in Google Pack. Our goals are seemingly no longer perfectly aligned
In a statement certainly worthy of a BigBlueBall mug (at least!), he goes on to say “We harbor no ill-will towards them and wish them the best of luck; they’re going to need it.”
Google Pack was announced at the beginning of January 2006 at CES, and contains a collection of free utility applications. The pack includes Google Updater, which installs and keeps all the applications up-to-date.
Trillian is on the move, with the next update, Trillian Astra, beginning beta testing.
That’s odd, well, I’m just glad that the good guys at Cerulean Studios are taking it well.
Sheesh – the one IM thingy I’m familiar with. I was hoping over the summer to get active again using IM. Too bad the folks at Google don’t realize it’s worth. As a complete newbie to this type of messaging, Trillian must be easy – if I was able to figure it out.
