KeymasterThanks for the heads-up, Zargeus! I’ve posted the news.
I can also confirm that the patch is working. 🙂

ParticipantRight now, the patch is only available to Trillian Pro members, until all the bugs are worked out. If you are a member goto http://www.trillian.cc and click on members. Log in, and the patch will be on the right side.

You could always try using a legal version… And if you don’t want to pay you could always use Gaim as Cerulean Studios has shared their knowledge on how to circumvent the Yahoo authentication with the developers of Gaim so that they may distribute it to their users. Oddly enough Cerulean Studios did so before supplying their own users of their free software with a “fix”. I can’t quite figure out the logic in that but hey, it’s not my call. Say, isn’t Cerulean Studios’ circumvention of Yahoo’s authentification eerily like those who circumvent Cerulean Studios’ authenification? Hmmmmm…

Just a reminder to read our Forum Policies, which state:
Quote:quote:”Warez, Hacking and Cracking
Don’t ask for us to help you crack a password, or hack into someone’s account. Don’t request illegal software. Any such requests or discussions will be summarily deleted by the forum staff. There are plenty of sites out there that discuss these topics; BigBlueBall isn’t one of them.If you can’t afford to purchase Trillian Pro, then I suggest you either get a (better?) job or use one of the many excellent free instant messengers out there. Even .74 will get patched for Yahoo soon enough.

I don’t find it odd at all. I think its done in the spirit of cooperation, recognizing that the IM market is big enough for many clients. As for why they haven’t supplied a patch for their free version? I can’t say, other than I understand that every company or organization needs to allocate their resources as they see best. But I’m just speculating.
Frankly, as a paying Trillian Pro user, I’d be pretty upset if they didn’t focus on 2.0 first! 🙂

That’s correct, it’s not a crack, it’s warez (also against forum policies). Anyway, getting back on topic…

I think it might make sense… Lots of GAIM (and miranda) users regard Trillian as evil money-grabbers for going the pay route. This gesture is to help show that they are still community spirited. Why not release the beta 0.74 patch too? Well one possibility is the usual old policy of no public beta tests (even the 2.0 test wasn’t open to nearly as many users as there are for 0.74). But my theory is, knowing that a new version of Trillian Basic based on Pro is coming soon, they’re going to release the new Basic version at the same time as the Pro patch, which will automatically include the fix. As for 1.0, there’s not really enough users to warrent spending their initial efforts on that.
Just an intelligent guess, I’ve got no more info than anyone else.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, Jeff. I think the sharing of info with Gaim is a giving gesture on the part of Cerulean Studios. What I found odd was that they would release it to the non paying users of Gaim and not to the non paying users of Trillian Basic… (or to the competetion before its own loyal users). The beta patch for paying customers who choose to use Pro 2.0 (I say who choose to use it because many have stated that they are disatisfied and have chosen to stick with Pro 1.0) is also recognized as a smart move on their part for the reason that you mention, however it does not help those who find Pro 2.0 too “buggy” to be considered useful and who have opted to revert back to Pro 1.0 which they purchased under the agreement that patches would be free for life and that they could continue to use it as long as they like… I am still curious though, of your thoughts, and others thoughts, on how the circumvention of Yahoo’s protocol would be different from the circumvention of CS’s protocol? Please note: This is a serious inquiry and only serious responses are solicited. Flames will only serve to mark the posters’ inability to comprehend both sides of the equation. To be open minded and to look at both sides is not to choose sides but to choose knowledge…

MemberTrillian won’t let me into the member area anymore so I can’t download the patch [v] Could anyone give me an alternate download location or email it to me? I can’t believe they won’t share patches to faulty products, and I definitely won’t pay $25 to get a patch and another year of no service…
Never mind. I had to look at my computer at home to get the correct email address (I have too many, and couldn’t remember which one I used to register/buy Trillian with). Turns out I tried the wrong one [v] 😀 -
