MemberHow long has it been happening? I mean, it could possibly be Yahoo! is playing some tricks with their servers:p.
Did you made any changes prior to the occurance of this problem?
Try doing a system-restore, it might help.:)December 12, 2005 at 8:33 am #134547greatqueue

MemberDo you have a firewall turned on? third party firewall like zone alarm or sygate or norton? if so then check ypager.exe in the firewall program control(depending on which firewall you have-if any) and see what access it has to the internet.
If you have windows XP firewall turned on then make sure yahoo messenger has access to the internet. Also look in yahoo preferences /connection and set it to no proxies if its not set.
You may need to open ports on your router to allow incoming traffic on port 5050 while using Yahoo Messenger-(this is only if you have a router and you can control the traffic on ports.)If you cant configure the contact your network administrator.
None of the above may work, but from reading your second reply it sounds to me that you are not receiving all the packets sent from yahoo servers or that a firewall is effecting this traffic. Also if you are IM’ing people from long distances and you have slowish connection you could be lagging.

I could only see their messages in offline messages if i restart my yahoo .. pls helpwow…nice to finally find someone with exactly the same problem as i am having with yahoo messenger.
i also log in….begin to IM with friends…..and in a few minutes, suddenly i cannot see their posts any longer….or….i can see their posts, but they stop seeing mine. it’s frustrating to see someone typing, “hello? are you there?” and typing back “yes, i am” but they never see it, or vice versa. also, this oddity seems to be arbitary as there are some times when it doesn’t happen at all….or only after some greater length of time. however, lately, the problem has become frustratingly reliable and quick to surface…..grrrrrrrr.
i have an additional symptom i think may be related. during this time i see myself logged on the entire time. my messenger window is fully active and i can do all the functions…excepting the above problem stated. however, if i happen to also have email in my yahoo account, my messenger keep sending me that little notice window telling me so…over and over and over again….for the same email…..every few minutes (until i go read it)…..just as it does when i first log on. it makes me suspicious that even though i appear logged on, i am not. however, this does not account for my ability to continue accessing all functions. also…if it is relogging me on, the IM situation does not rectify itself during that time.
i also am up to speed on my windows XP (pro) and macro flash.
however, my problem has been going on for months now…on version 6. i just this week updated to version 7 and it’s no better.
also, i have dial-up…not DSL.
i do have a firewall and have set my yahoo preferences at “firewall with no proxies” as they recommend.
however…..(my firewall is symantec)….the problem persists even if the firewall is disabled…..and that really ought NOT be the solution anyway.
so, greatqueue, you and i share some commonalities…but also some differences. good to find another fellow sufferer….though sorry too. now….is there anyone out there with any ideas? would be soooo greatly appreciated. i am running out of hair to pull.
many thanks in advance,

Membergreatqueue wrote:I din do any changes to my system .. This issue suddenly started happening suddenly . Its driving me crazy …..:-(did you install any new software recently?
or have you ran a scan for spyware or viruses.also
make sure u have Java turned on;
Select “Tools” from your menu bar and choose “Internet Options…” Click on the “Security” tab. For the Internet zone, be sure that the Security level is set to “Medium” or below. (If you have chosen to customize your Security settings for the Internet zone, be sure that under the Java heading, “Java permissions” is not set on “Disable Java.” Select one of the three safety levels instead. Also make sure that under Scripting, “Scripting of Java Applets” is set to “Enable” or “Prompt.”)(this is just to rule out either a network issue or a system based problem)
thanks

Membergreatqueue wrote:Yes …i checked what all you have told me …but still the same problem exists .try cleaning out your yahoo cache folder,(delete the contents within the folder-not the cache folder itself)make sure yahoo messenger is not running
reboot your machine and see if the problem occurs when you pm buddies.this is a long time known problem and yahoo have yet to provide a solution other than checking your firewall configuration or proxie settings.
**cache folder is located at c:/ or d:/ program files/yahoo/messenger/Cache

Membergreatqueue…i surfed the past couple days and scoured a lot of forums. there were lots of great ideas but it was a success story i was looking for. i finally found it.
one gentleman suggested uninstalling messenger and then reloading an older version. then, if the older version removed the problems, upgrade from there.
i tried it and it worked like a charm! since i already knew that version 6 and 7 didn’t work, i went down to version 5….success! then i upgraded it back up to a 7. i tested my messenger for a number of hours yesterday…..during several separate log ins. all the symptoms i listed disappeared. everything ran smooth as silk 🙂
hope this helps you too!
take care
