I’ve searched the forums for this and from what I can tell, this isn’t supposed to be possible, but it happened. A friend of mine IM’d my old boyfriend as a joke. He doesn’t know her, knows nothing about her. The next day, he IM’d her her alternate screen name. There’s no way he could have her e-mail address to have gotten it through Find a Buddy and she doesn’t have a directory entry filed. She’s also very careful about revealing private information about herself. She’s blocked him now, so it’s not really an issue, but I’d really like to know how he did it. Any ideas?
Logical, except she’s a cute little coed and he’s a middle-aged schlub and they’re from different cities. Different worlds. The only link is me and I didn’t tell him. Thanks for answering.
To be honest, I think I’ve heard of it being possible. There is some way of getting other screennames on a specific account. Did you say the alternate screenname is thru AOL or is it just another screenname she created thru AIM? Cause that matters. There are ways of finding out other names on AOL accounts. If it was thru AIM then frankly I have no idea and would love to know how he did that. Either way however, I am not sure how it was done, but that it CAN be done thru AOL.
Hey, thanks for the response. It’s gotten even more weird now. This is strictly AIM, okay, not AOL. Yesterday I’m on AIM and she signs on with her other screen name, the one not on my buddy list. But I got a pop-up that she had signed on. So that must be how he got it. The two names have one similarity that he could connect. So what then, just a freaky AIM thing?
I don’t know exactly your situation b/c I didn’t read all this too carefully but I do know that if she used the same email address, he can type it in the “Find a Buddy by Email Address” and it will come up with all the screen names for that email account.
I have noticed that on some sites like buddy profile sites there is a code they use to find the person’s name the person used to get a AIM screen name. That could have some link to how he got it but thats all i know and i havent seen anything on this forum about getting a person real name from AIM so it may not be true.
