MemberHi,
Recently someone IMed me telling me detailed facts about myself, claimed that they could see the names on my buddy list, and listed some correctly. Is it possible to see my buddy list from an entirely different computer? I wasn’t threatened, and judging by the information they knew about my school, I assume they are on campus. This said, maybe someone I know looked at my computer to find a few SNs, but I was asking the person beginnings of random names and “it” answered every one correctly. It’s been IMing me for the past 3 days (I just blocked it), and I’m starting to get concerned that it may have hacked even more personal information off my system….. Please respond with any help you can provide, thanks 🙂April 10, 2004 at 3:45 am #46929alana0601
Participantthey could see the people you have on your buddylist if on another computer you saved your password and they signed on your SN (you can do thatnow without kicking the first person off) and he could see all your friends and talk to them as well. OR maybe its a friend playing a joke.

MemberI’m really anal about my password (don’t even have it saved on MY computer), and I don’t recall signing on to someone else’s compuuter, so I doubt that this is the case…. No one’s ever heard of a buddy list hack like this?

ParticipantRelax, its probably just somebody playing games with you….probably a friend or someone you know fairly well. They mostly likely have a buddy list with some of the same buddies, and would assume you were friends with them too.

Memberit could be your computer is insecure. If that remote desktop is enabled someone could see your screen to do that. A trojan horse could also be your problem. My advice is to have someone scan your computer. Go find a linux guru and have him scan your computer with nessus. You could also try nmap but that would require you to read the results yourself. Go find someone running linux and point them towards http://www.nessus.org and tell them you need some scanning. If you cant do that (its really the best way) see if you can find an online security scanner maybe that will work but I dont know

Memberfor future reference, whenever you put a quote in your info from somebody else
(ie: Jillxisxcool: aww I love you!)
more people than you could imagine will add that name to their lists trying to figure out who it is, lol. That could be another way this person got your friends’ sns!
