Is it possible to use my External Hard Drive as the Primary Drive. As in run everything off an external USB Hard Drive including the Operating System.
Because my external hard drive is alot larger than my current internal (primary) one.
Thanks.
I think it should be possible, as long as your BIOS has a Boot Up from USB option. But I would say that the best long-term deal would be to get a larger internal hard disk (the prices keep falling anyway).
To add onto what Philip said: Your current internal hard drive must be pretty dang small if you can’t even install a decent OS on it.
So, with that, go and get a new one. Unless you’re looking for something ridiculous such as a terabyte, you can get a good-sized HD for cheap. They’re a lot cheaper than external ones, too (last time I checked).
Hi guys. Should have said this before, but I have XP on my current internal hard drive (80GB). And I was thinking about installing Vista on my external hard drive (500GB), so that I don’t need to lose XP on my internal one.
Also, I may be moving the internal one to another computer. Leaving my computer left with only an external hard drive. Which is why I was asking if its possible to boot from the external drive.
Also I just bought the external one, which has plenty of space. So buying another internal hard drive wouldn’t be economical.
Thanks for the info. I will look into the USB Boot up option.
