As far as I can see, the only sources of virus bulletins pertaining particularly to IM are scarce or mixed in with other news on technology sites.
Perhaps BBB could have a virus or malware bulletin section for each IM software we support and we could push to become the definitive source for information on the latest threats. Where will we get this information? I’m not sure. I can’t use any of my contacts to give you this information as it would be covered under NDA but I think we can manage on our own.
If done right, this could bring us a lot of traffic and we’d be ahead of competition like Mess.be who only do it through their news site.
Moreover, we could add malware bulletins affecting IMs or security bulletins affecting social networking sites too to our newsletter and our site.
We could effectively become the definitive and trusted site for IM/social networking related security issues and bulletins.
I think that’s a WONDERFUL idea! Sometimes, even though we know to look for something and be cautious, we fail to spot when something suspicious happens. I know from recent experience, and blessedly, I had File Transfer scanning turned on in WLM and my AVG caught the problem, but were it not for that, I’d have been in trouble.
Keeping this kind of information in front of people is a good idea, as helping them get rid of the results is a lot harder than trying to teach them to spot the problems!!

Yep, I agree too. Good idea, since there’s some nasty viruses being spread among Yahoo! Messenger and Windows Live Messenger.
P.S. Don’t open any unknown Valentine’s Day e-cards today, since they may be a variant of the Storm Virus. =P
