MemberOk,. im kinda freaking out. I have an e-mail,…. that was sent from a friend,. although the friend swears up and down that they didnt send it. It had a link on here,… i am afraid to post it because if it is bad,. i dont want someone to click on it. But i need to know if it has a virus,. or keylogger,…….. or whatever. Also,. the ip addy that it came from,. well,. it is close to my friends,. but ends up showing a diff country from where my friends always comes from. I am probably not making sense,…… forgive me,. im a lil nervous.

MemberIt sounds like you know what you are talking about, I am assuming you pulled up the FULL HEADER and ran the IP address though a WHOIS database.
Your friend may not have sent it. Spoofing of email addresses is becoming more common. Get together with your friend and try to figure out who you both know from the country that the email came from. This may help find who is infected.
Did you get an virus warning when you recieved the email? I cannot tell you if it had a keylogger or a trojan without knowing the link, you would have to give us more to go on. It is best not to put up the link. You can give a partial link if you are not able to describe the page in detail.
Also give your friend some of those other links that I referred you to in your other post to do online scans for infections. It never hurts to get a second opinion.

MemberTy stupidisasstupiddoes !
I almost feel foolish, because it looks totally legit, and looks like spam,… but knowing my friend says they didnt send it, and knowing we have been having a lot of problems,… it worries me. I need a scan on my puter with nortons, and it says it is clean,… but then again,. i didnt click on the link.
Also,. no warnings popped up. And yes,. i looked at the full headers. Thing is,… the ip addy starts out just like my friends,. but when i ran a search,. it came as a diff country. But,… i have heard that ppl can spoof their ip to look that way,… when infact is the same person. I guess,. im confused, because i have had ppl i trusted on here really suprise me, and i expect anything now,… and just learniong thru a lot of trial and error,. along with a lot of reading,.. i sometimes feel like i know just enough about this stuff to get me in trouble,.. lol,… the link i was referring to looked something like this: http://amersurvey.com/r=****************** (which was a buncha letters and numbers and symbols) i dont know if that helps,. but i hope so

MemberAmersurvey is one of those websites that promises to give you lots of free stuff just for filling out a simple survey. Well “simple” is a matter of opinion. I have pulled up a a google search, and people have said they have not recieved their prizes.
I went to Amersurvey’s website and pulled this down off the FAQ’s page:
How can I invite my friends to this offer?
It’s easy! As part of the registration process, we will give you a unique link that you can forward to your friends. This link is encoded to credit your account with a referral signup. Please, be responsible with your invitations… Invite only people you know. Spam hurts everyone and takes the fun out of getting free gift cards! So my question is, did your friend fill out a survey and invite you?

MemberWOW. Well,. i asked the same thing,. nothing was filled out,. its the strangest thing. And i know,. they are having to reformat their puter. We were in pm,. and all of the sudden,. strange names start popping up,… things that werent typed from them.
what i dont understand,. is if it it someone messing with one of their mail accounts,. why use spam?
It is usually me that gets all the problems,. i just had my account stolen,. although i got it back,… i have had booter problems,… strange pms,… one person that was obviously insane,. and upset because i didnt add him as a buddy,. and threatened me,.. said things about my child during chat,. things like that. But it has been 6 months since i heard directly from this person. Yahoo did nothing. I have had him on ignore,. somehow he pops off my iggy list. I guess its just all too crazy,. and sometimes,. you either have to deal with it or stay off the puter,. but it just doesnt seem fair that some of us that dont know a great deal about how things work,. have to not go on the puter.
Ty, again for all your help and time, stupididasstupiddoes !!! you rock !October 20, 2005 at 5:17 am #131987stupidisasstupiddoes
MemberIt sounds like one of you may have an infection. Have your friend scan his computer for infections. For a free anti-virus program, goto http://free.grisoft.com for AVG free version. I prefer Norton Anti-virus, I have been using norton products for 16 years, so that is my preference, but it is not free. Others will recommend different anti-virus programs, it really doesn’t matter as long as you get protected. After installing an anti-virus program, make sure to update the definitions, or it will be of very limited use. Then run a scan immediately,
There are several free scans available:
http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp?cid=9435
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm
http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
There are more but I can’t think of anymore off the top of my head. Scan your computer and remove anything that is infected.
You should keep track of all the processes running on your computer, that way you will know if something starts running that shouldn’t be. Goto http://www.winpatrol.com to help manage your running processes.
I would run all of the above free online scans, they are all free.
