Alright, so everytime I hit the button to lower the voume on my laptop it just mutes it. The button for it to go louder works but everytime you hit the lowering one it just mutes and its a pain in the butt to do it manually each time. Also the mute button works.
Hardware problem or not?
Compaq Presario V5105US.
Windows XP Home.
Ummm – I’m a total newb here, but have had to solve many volume problems through the control panel, sounds and audio devices. Have you checked the settings there to see if something inadvertently was set to have the lower volume setting actually mute the volume?
Just a guess. For me it usually happens when I switch messengers for voicing or plug in (or unplug) a new mic or headset thingy.
I looked forever for a setting that was changed. I couldn’t find one, and I even tried changing some and nothing worked, but thanks anyways :]
Reinstall any drivers that came with your computer, anything related to audio, as well as any kind of general package. Like IBM has “ThinkVantage.”
