MemberHey .. has anyone ever heard of a program called YaView? [http://www.comfortablynumb.org/yaview/%5D It is supposed to let you view other peoples Yahoo! webcams anonymously, but it costs $9.95 .. and I was just wondering if anyone knows if that means you can view others webcams without them knowing, or if it asks them to allow “anonymous” permission to view. Anyone know or have any input? If it would allow me to view someones cam without them knowing then it would be worth the 10 bucks, but otherwise doesn’t look worth it. Also what i use is a program called SnagIt. You can use it to record any part of your screen you want to capture and save it as an avi. By far my favorite program. 🙂 It’s at http://www.techsmith.com. Check it out. 🙂

ParticipantI would assume it means you can view someone’s webcam without them knowing. But you realy shouldn’t ride on my assumption. 🙂

MemberI downloaded Webcam Watcher also, and am having the same problems.. I am viewing a persons webcam as i write this, and searched my entire harddrive for “image-theirusername.jpg”, and nothing was found. I am using Windows XP Pro, and the temp dir is ‘d:documents and settingsrandylocal settingstemp’, and when i look in that folder, i see a few files with the name of “image-whatever.jpg”, but there was only a few in there out of all the cams I have viewed in the past week or so. Anyways basically right now when i search my harddrive for even the persons user name nothing comes up. Does the new Yahoo 5.5 not save temp webcam files or something?? I can’t get it to work at all. I just want a program to record cams with that has the feature of only saving frames when they change. SnagIt records everything so when I watch the video it’s the same as the cam (long pauses) .. any other programs out there?

MemberWHOA!
Here is what YaView v2 means by “anonymous”. The text is taken directly from the End User License Agreement. (If I’m reading EULA’s I need to get a life)Inability to connect to webcams
If you cannot connect to someone’s webcam, there could be a few reasons. First keep in mind that you are connecting to someone with the username of “Anonymous”. When your username is looked up in Yahoo Profiles, it will look up “anonymoous_your-public-ip-address:your-local-ip-address”. This is because you are not logged into Yahoo services and your Internet Protocol Address information must be passed to the Yahoo services server.i.e. you ain’t so anonymous. The webcam sender can get the local IP of your system. Ouch 😮

I have been wrestling with exactly the same kind of problem. I have multiple systems, some of which have been upgraded to windows XP pro. NOTE upgraded! When you upgrade to winXP pro all applications and files that were on the system originally are setup for all users. I can’t find ANY of the webcam JPEG files that I am watching on MOST of my systems. That use to be the case for ALL of my systems. Then I removed Yahoo Messenger from one of them and reinstalled it as myself. Now the JPEG files are right were they are suppose to be C:Documents and SettingsjohnLocal SettingsTempimage-XXXXX.jpg. I suggest you use the Add Remove programs to remove Yahoo Messanger then re-install it. I didn’t lose anything by doing this.

MemberI would like to use one of my webcams as a security cam. Problem is, I don’t want all the dead time to get recorded. Does anyone know a webcam capture app that will work with Yahoo webcam and also incorporates motion detection. Ultimately, all it would be doing is comparing each image and ignoring frames that don’t meet a set percentage of change.
