This is a good one. I’ve heard loads of problems with yahoo messenger and webcams and thats exactly the problem that i’ve got.
I’m running xp pro with a logi quick cam and everytime i try and start the cam from within yahoo messenger it crashes! yup crashes but it crashes so bad that i can’t even end task it or stop the process running!! i have to reboot my pc.
Ive re-inst messenger and the quick cam, got all the latest updates for xp inc. sp1, the latest driver from logitech and it still doesn’t work!! i’m having real trouble here some help will be most appreciated!!February 22, 2003 at 5:06 am #97921Freddie
MemberHere’s a simple answer. Yahoo sucks for video. I tried it once. For about two minutes we had it working ok for all 4 people. But it eventually crashed all of our computers.

MemberSorry to sound hateful. I don’t hate Yahoo– I use it almost every day. Just their video simply does not work well at all. I failed to mention that one of the people I tried it out with writes chat programs for a living. He can’t get it to work, either. And I definately would like someone to explain how to make it work, just the answer probably lies with Yahoo fixing it.

MemberActually we all have a Love – Hate relationship with Yahoo! Many times you will see *friggin yahell* by my nic! As for the Logitech/Yahoo/XP mix, they dont play well together! Some Logitech cams wont work with XP/Yahoo combo! My other half (Jon) had a Logitech that did the same as Daz says:

everytime i try and start the cam from within yahoo messenger it crashes! He just uses our videocamcorder on his now or my Intel cam. Ive heard of others just returning the Logitech and getting some other brand and it working fine!

Freddie I totally agree it does suck but I would like still to use it! Maybe I will buy a new cam and go from there. I’ll let you all know how I get on.February 23, 2003 at 10:55 pm #97924Daz
Memberp.s. I know its definately Yahoo because the Cam works fine inside windows and i’ve noticed that when I go to the webcam page in preferences the “camera settings” and “camera source” buttons are both greyed out!!
If anyone can prevent me from spending any more money on my computer then it would be appreciated!!

….preferences the “camera settings” and “camera source” buttons are both greyed out!!Instead of going directly in the “Preferences” click on the webcam button on your Y!M main window. Then go to the “File –> Preferences” menu of the webcam window. You’ll see that the “camera source” button is no longer greyed out ! 🙂

Memberthink i have the UK version at the moment which doesn’t have the webcam button (all the installing and un-installing) but im almost certain that i have tried that but i thought that it just started the cam for you. I think when I tried before it just crashed like it always does!!
P.s I have since downloaded Eyeball chat and thats fine!!
