Out Of All The Aim Verison’s Which One Is Truely The Best???
I think the best version of AIM is 5.2 because its very stable one of the most they have ever com out with.
It’s very tough to give a definite answer for what is “the best”, it’s mostly opinionated.
The only answer I can give (which is not a “best”) is the latest 5.9 version, 5.9.3793, because it has the most exploit fixes. I personally use 5.5.3599, but 5.9.3793 has patched more exploits that have been discovered since 5.5.3599. You’re less likely to “be had” on 5.9.3793 when another user is attempting to crash/punt/steal information from you.
personally i think the 5.x series is bloated. i don’t need games, sounds, webcam, “expressions”, buddyicons, etc on my instant messaging software. some of the “features” i mentioned are in older versions of AIM (< 5.x).
the best way to “protect” yourself from these “exploits” is not to use one of the “cool features”. with every new “feature” AIM/AOL has added into AIM there has always been ways to “exploit” it. there will truly never be a secure AIM client from AOL because every version they come out with ads new “features” that make it vulnerable.
personally i run AIM 4.8. this is because it isn’t bloated with “extra features” that i’ll never use anyway. it is probably dangerous, but i take the necessary precautions before running it. i don’t accept anything. no buddy icons, direct connect, file transfers, sounds, “connect to talk”, chat invitations, etc. by doing this i believe that i am pretty secure against threats. if someone decides to clone flood me, i can just enable block all users not on my buddylist.
if you do not wish to use such an old version of AIM you should probably use one from the earlier 5.x series (5.2- ~5.5). these are a little less bloated, and will probably make direct connections correctly unlike AIM 4.8 ;).
