Hello
Since recently a window pop up when I’m trying to log in to WLMessenger (version 2009 / 14). That window says
“The new version of messenger is downloaded and
ready to install. In order to continue upgrade
your current version. Install now?”
-yes
-no
[what’s new] [ok]
I choose NO and then [ok].
So far I can’t log in to messenger at all.
I’d prefer to stay with WLM 2009 but not with 2001.
I googled about this problem. Everywhere people writing about three methods ( example How to Not Upgrade from Windows Live Messenger 2009 to 2011 (Hide Force Update) » My Digital Life )
method 1 – not working for me
method 2 – “the upgrade is not available for Windows XP system”
I don’t get it. I have WinXp and that prompt window.
But anyway is it safe to change anything in “compatibility”?
method 3 – ?
Could you please advice (or what is your experience on this topic, did you use any of methods)? What is the safe way to stay with 2009 🙂
Thanks in advance!
It’s probably a security update to 2009. WLM 2011 won’t even install and run on an XP system – so you don’t have anything to worry about if you are on XP. WLM 2011 requires Vista or Windows 7.
I’m guessing this is a forced update to 2009 to address a security vulnerability and if it won’t let you log in without it then you should apply it.

Thank you very much for clearing it up. It helped me a lot 🙂
(I would + to your reputation but “You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to patndoris again”)
