whats "Unwise"? - BigBlueBall

I was browsing through yahoo folder, and there was a program in it called “Unwise” . Does anyone know what this is? I’m wondering if its something i downloaded, or if its always been there…

Unwise is a file that is installed with most software today…

“Unwise” is the name of the uninstall program, and as Brian pointed out, it has become a commonly used name for this function. Apparently some software programmer thought it would be a clever name for it, perhaps so that someone didn’t go…. “Hmm what’s this? Maybe I’ll run it and see what it does!” and then proceeded to remove their programs.

Or maybe Yahoo thinks so highly of their messenger that they really believe that you’d be a fool to uninstall it?

Wise is an Installation System produced by Wise Solutions that just happens to be used by Yahoo!, most probably in conjunction with the Windows based Installer you most probably have installed.

unwise.exe is the Uninstaller program.

Other systems like Install Shield are less creative with their uninstaller names (uninstall.exe).

I like Jeff’s theory on the naming;)

well arwen i am a lil confused abt ur computer knowledge????
if u r a senior member in this forum, then ….
well unwise is a program that when executed causes the particular program with which it came to uninstall! most of the s/w which are installed using wiseinstaller keeps this(unwise) program in the program folder!!! not satisfied with the answer! go and execute it!

Your status goes up by the number of posts you send, rather than computer knowledge. Either way, I doubt they’ll kick me out for not knowing what unwise is. Confusion over?

Nor would or should they kick you out for that. What’s with all of this “I know more than you stuff?” I was out of town for the weekend and my intelligence gets in question (on another post) and now Arwen, this is a place where we help each other with what we know and ask questions to learn about what we don’t know. Do you think we could a little bit less “status” minded and just looked at what was being asked AND offered?? Just a question….I hope I am allowed to ask b/c of my status.
