MemberI just wondering, where are my away messages stored in the AIM files? I have ResHack if that makes any difference of where I can go. Thanks much

They are in the registry. HKCU/Software/America Online/AOL Instant Messenger (TM)/CurrentVersion/Users/ScreenName/IAmGoneListFebruary 1, 2005 at 3:08 am #113400dreamrose1989
Memberall I get where I go there is I get to the current version and then there isn’t anything else I can select. When I click on the current version number it just says “(Default)” with the type name as “REG_SZ” I don’t know what I did, but they’re not showing up

Participantare you sure you’re in HKEY_CURRENT_USER and not HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ? both hives have the same structure to that point, but only HKCU has the away messages stored

Memberis there a way to get the messages out of the registry and transfer them to another computer?

Participantsure… right-click on the “IAmGoneList” entry in the left-hand panel, and choose ‘Export’ – it will allow you to create a .reg file, which you can then transfer to another computer. once it’s on the other computer, just double click that file and the changes should be imported.

ParticipantHey guys.
I was wondering if you could help me out.
I had a desktop computer with a hard-drive on it from which I installed and used AIM. When I used AIM on that computer, I would regularly create Away messages (of varying levels of taste)– some 200 away messages in fact.
Anyway, because the desktop’s power-supply started acting up, I took out the hard-disk and put it in a 3.5inch enclosure.
That hard disk is now my external hard-disk (entitled “DriveG”) which I access from my laptop. So, if I wanted to recover the away messages that were stored on my old hard-disk (entitled “DriveG”), how would I do it?
I haven’t been able to find a direct way to access the registry on a hard-disk that is being used as an external hard disk.
Any tips would be MASSIVELY appreciated.
Thanks!
