Extreme Messenger 1.6.1 should fix all the problems you are having, especially when using Windows XP. I know this topic is old but I just had to reply. 🙂

well u might want 2 try http://www.awaybox.com/ its an “AIM expression” and it has the faded text, and colored smilies and also random away messages….its FREE and really easy to get, i’ve had it for a month now and never had any problems…just go to the site and click at the bottom where it says “click here to add away box now!” (BE ON aim when u do that) u have 2 have the newest AIM and the newest internet explorer for it to work…!
