KeymasterI was shocked when I read this, but according to this article on Yahoo! News, “…women over 40 are the most frequent online gamers, more so than men or teenage boys…”

MemberI am sort of surprised about this..
I guess this has something to do with women over 40 going through mid-crisis and stuff like that?

Participanti rather doubt that, what games are they gonna play?? I can just see some middle-aged woman sitting down for a nice relaxing game of Unreal Tournament 2k4… “yeah DIE!! DIE already! yeah there we go, who’s your momma?? who’s your momma?? THAT’S RIGHT!! THERE! TAKE THAT!!… oh hi honey how was work?”
i suppose its possible they’re playing online card games or something, but come on, seriously

//cowers in anticipation of all the flak i’m gonna get for this post//Exactly what I was thinking. I’d think they are talking more about card and flash games online, not high-action multi-player games that teens play.

In addition to the games it already offers from Electronic Arts Inc.’s (Nasdaq:ERTS – news) Club Pogo, AOL said it would add games and game demos from companies including TryMedia, GameHouse and Funkitron. They offer titles like “Scrabble,” “Slingo,” “Mah Jong” and “Daily Jigsaw,” among others.May 6, 2004 at 2:31 am #80027Dr Kimble

Many of the games, AOL said, are of the type that often appeal to women gamers. So, now we know why AOL’s games are stinkorama 😛
My (middle-aged) mom loves Majong/free-cell/hearts/etc
Sadly, those games are really all she does on a computer.
She spends so much time playing that I wouldn’t doubt that article’s claim one bit.May 6, 2004 at 2:40 am #80021detn8r

I can see Scrabble being online, since you’d need more than one player… and i’m not sure what Slingo is (maybe something similar to the gameshow Lingo?), maybe some multiperson card games… but Mahjongg and jigsaw puzzles??? come on people seriously… i’ll rephrase my earlier comment – I can just see a bunch of middle-aged women sitting at their computers, chatting away on AIM and playing an intense four-person game of Hearts

MemberFrom playing Battlefield 1942 I can tell you that there are a handful of females shooting soldiers, as for women over 40 I’m a little surprised.
