ParticipantIts actually the RIAA – Recording Industry of America, that is going to be suing users who share large amounts of files. If you must use Kazaa and want to protect yourself why not try Kazaa Lite K++ V. 2.40 which offers features such as no Spy-ware or Ad-ware, Block/Hide from RIAA, and plenty more excellent features.
[EDIT: RustedTight has pointed out that the RIAA’s legal action does not seem to be only applicable for Americans. If you don’t want to get sued, don’t download or share any copyrighted music or files.]

KazaALite does not install spyware that we know of. However it does have what is known as a cd_clint.dll which is a Cydoor dummy file that creates a loopback. It is nessecary for this “dummy” file to remain as it tricks the KazaALite server into thinking its getting those adds just by being in the folder. In reality it does not do any real sending of information back to some server. If you have ever used a HOST file for windows its kinda like that. At one time the program Spybot Search + Destroy detected this because of the name of the file which matches that of the real cd_clint.dll This discussion has been a many in threads within the forums of Wilders Security Forums, Lavasoft, etc. but you will find they do not support KazaALite because its simply a cracked version of KaZaA.
However I am like you and I am skeptical about KazaALite. I can say this though… Make no mistake that in some way and some fashion KaZaALite users are still being monitered. I would just end using P2Ps together and learn mIRC.

This only affects American users for nowActually theres many users in Australia who have recieved notification from RIAA …. not long after their connection thru their ISP is cancelled.
It’s not a matter of IF you get caught… but simply of WHEN.July 21, 2003 at 5:49 am #94407Someguy03
MemberI used to use winmx. I have found that the chances of actually getting a download to finish is well below 50%. Say 50 people have the same file. Winmx doesnt compress them so you can select them from one expandable list, instead you just get pages and pages of music, and most of it is low bandwith or is remotly qued. The colors are horrible and they dont even work on fixing much.

This is true. Plus you can select what birate you want, the speed of the connections you would like to download from, and the colors you want.
