MemberI like winamp for mp3 playing but i prefer version 2 over 3. I had 2, upgraded to an early version of winamp3, but now i use 2.91. Winamp3 takes longer to load, and when I selected a large amount of files at once and hit enter, it got messed up. Skins are much more complicated to make (but you can do much more with them). And 2.91 can play videos also.
Has Winamp3 improved? Should I download it?July 15, 2003 at 9:29 pm #93423coolguyj2
Memberno……… dont download winamp3, it is slower, takes a hell lotta time to do normal operations and isnt worth downloading…. i am still using 2.71 its the best and the fastest, i prefer it over all versions of winamp even 2.91

ParticipantIve had nothing but problems with 3.
Its a RAM pig, and doesnt load very well. Hell, even winamp.com is finished with it. But for some reason, it corupted itself, and now I have to redownload it, to fix what it fuxed up. A PITA if your on dial up!
I like the stable-ness of 2.91. And I liked the skins of 3. Im going to wait until version 5 (if thats the number their going with…) comes up. 2.91 with 3’s skins.July 17, 2003 at 1:52 pm #93414rustedtight

Those with legacy systems and limited ( less than 64 mb ) of memory may encounter problems.July 17, 2003 at 2:54 pm #93422coolguyj2

Those with legacy systems and limited ( less than 64 mb ) of memory may encounter problems.well I have 128 Mb Ram, lots of HDD and 500 MHz processor… (its a lil slow) but I dont think this might be the reason for it getting slow as my frnd has a 1Ghz AMD m/c with 128 Mb DDR RAM and still winamp 3 is slow…. just give it a try… dl winamp 2.71 and compare its loading time with winamp 3…. you will come to know….(just an advice)

MemberTried winamp before and never really cared for it much. But I might be willing to try it again, if someone wants to tell me why it is so good?

Memberwhy winamp is better…. its like asking why BBB rulez….
1) Winamp is free
2) most of the plugins of winamp are free,
3) easy to remember shortcuts i.e. mouse is reqd rarely
4) fast loading and decoding
the only drawback which I face comparing Music Match Juke Boc (MMJB) with winamp is the “Super Tagging Feature” of MMJB which allows you to rename files according to ID3 tag or vica versa…
I hope that info is enough….July 17, 2003 at 8:26 pm #93417Phil
MemberBecause my computer is so pants…Winamp 3 took around 30 seconds at least to open…It would sit there doing nothing…then would finally open…so I just use the previous version! In other words, I think version 2.80 or earlier is probably better when it comes to slow computers!

MemberI guess I should have explained better earlier. The main reason I did not like it was because it kept trying to take over everything. Even after I had set it not to. Finally got tired of it and uninstalled. Does it still do that?
BTW- Thanks for the info, Coolguy!

ParticipantI like Winamp because it did take over all my win mediaplayer problems I was having. But now, its really bad when I have to wait 3 minutes to play a CD, and even the status window doesnt display itself.
Another reason I dont like winamp is because alot of plugins dont seem to work.
-@RT, I would not recomend that you download this version. 1) for most users, its slow, and unstable, 2) winamp.com creators are even finished with it.July 18, 2003 at 5:26 am #93428keiti chan

MemberI havent found anything wrong with winamp 3 except for the fact that its slower than other versions. I guess its a bargain, speed for features.

well that depends upon the settings u choose… while installing winamp it asks you about this…. that whether winamp should give away assosciations or not…. if u select Yes then it doesnt do that… also u can go to prefrences – setup – file types and select only files u wanna play with winamp….

MemberHey how do you access the easter egg in winamp 2? Where it says “really whips the llama’s ass” in the titlebar? i’ve seen the title bar when creating skins, but is it ever used by winamp?
