MemberHi,
Please be kind, I am new here. Last night I was booted from yahoo and each time I tried to log back on, it would kick me out after 30 seconds or so. In doing research, I discovered what happened (the guy who did it sent me a PM which I replied to….ok stupid I know).
Anyway, I scanned my system using “The Cleaner” and discovered a Trojan which it deleted. A few questions:
1) Did the Trojan get into my system via the “booter”.
2) Why didn’t Antivirus pick this up?
3) What can I do to avoid this?
4) Is my system now compromised (ie passwords etc). Please help.
Thank you.

MemberNo, you did not contract the trojan from the “booter.” The reason your anti-virus didn’t catch it is because when you got the trojan, your anti-virus deffinitions were not up to date, so at that time, your anti-virus program didn’t consider it a threat. However, now that you have updated the definitions, your computer still hadn’t found it because you haven’t tried to run the program. As long as the program doesn’t run, your anti-virus won’t scan it, unless you have the anti-virus scan your system. To avoid being booted, use a chat client such as Y!mLite, YahElite, or MyChat. To avoid from getting trojans, be careful of the websites you go to, and don’t accept files from people you don’t know or trust. And yes, your system is compromised. Since the trojan hasn’t been running, I wouldn’t worry too much, but because i’m a paranoid kind of person when it comes to things like that, I’ld make sure you change your passwords.

MemberCmariani, who ever was booting you had the boot program set to auto, and thats why it kept booting you about every 30 sec’s.I don’t think the trojan came from the booter.

Memberit happened with me once that some times when people want to send you some trojan, they usualy boot u.. boot you in the sense that they flood you with many voice conferences or cam invitations.. so mostly the victim will be like clicking “deny” or “no” button blindly.. and within the whole flood of invitations, they sometimes send you a file which many ppl by mistake click “yes” and accept it. Mostly what happens is that some people have the option to “open the file” after it is saved. so when we blindly go on clicking yes or no, the file also gets opened.
I came to know about this only when some one was trying to send me a trojan thru the same way. thank god I didnt accept the file. so nothing realy happened.
another thing. I tried to experiment with magic ps 1.43 and I tested it with my norton anti virus 2004 and strangely it didnt recoqnize the trojan ( may be it can be detected by some other anti virus ). but it easily detected the magic ps 1.5 trojan. so some trojans are not being detected properly. its always better not to accept ANY file at all. for example, key loggers cant be detected by anti virus and I know there are some key loggers which cant be detected by adwares also. to protect your pc from trojans or viruses, always have a recent and updated fire wall, anti virus tools, spy wares, and scan your computer regularly. -
