MemberDoes anyone here use Yahoo! Companion?
I’m interested in knowing how to update it, and how to find out what version is the latest.

MemberIsn’t there a full package called, “Yahoo Essentials”? Basically it is a program which installs Yahoo Messenger, Yahoo Companion, some other Yahoo features which I have forgotton. And it can also set your default home page to Yahoo, and set Yahoo Mail as your default mail. It also creates Start Menu entries, one of which is called Yahoo Essentials, and this allows you to check for updates for all of your installed Yahoo components.
I’m not sure where to get this from, although it is an offical Yahoo product, not a third party application. So I would imagine if you search Yahoo, then you will find it.
However, I am not 100% sure if Yahoo still provide Yahoo Essentials. I used to have it, however I formatted my hard drive, and just never bothered to get it again.
Hope that helps.

MemberThanks for the link Justified. I’d been looking for it myself, without success. Looking at the address…I think I lacked a little bit in common sense, lol. 😀

Memberah, well, I really don’t need all of those things. All I wanna do is be able to update yahoo companion. lol

KeymasterYou can just pretend to download the latest yahoo messenger, then when installation starts choose custom and unclick everything including yahoo messenger and leave yahoo companion clicked. That should do it.

Can you prove to us that the software in question is full of “exploits and spyware”? Perhaps through results of a scan using Spybot S&D, or Ad-Aware 6, for example.
I think if Yahoo Companion did include such things, then it would be much more widely known, and with Yahoo being a big company, it is unlikely that they would distribute such software.
However until you provide me with conclusive proof that Yahoo Companion does include spyware, exploits, and things like that, then I will continue to use it. I have had no privacy problems when using it. Nor has Ad-Aware or Spybot S&D detected anything.
