MemberYahoo has posted the following message on their chat login page at http://chat.yahoo.com/
Quote:NOTICE: UPCOMING CHANGES
To make chatting a better experience, Yahoo! Chat will no longer support Java-based chat software. This change will occur in the next few days. After that, you will still be able to access chat rooms with Chat 2.0 software, but for best results we recommend using Yahoo! Messenger with VoiceAnyone logging in using YCHT might like to know they might have problems.

MemberYep, it’s official now. I tried to login from YahELite on YCHT, but the connection timed out. So I checked out chat.yahoo.com, and it said:
Quote:“To make your chatting experience the best it can be, Yahoo! Chat is no longer supporting Java-based chat software. You can still access chat rooms through the enhanced features of Yahoo! Messenger with Voice.”Ah, the good old days of using capitalized ID’s are over I guess.

MemberQuote:suppose chat2 is better than nothing.Yea, the chat servers are offline for the moment I guess. No one is able to connect to the chatrooms.
But does this signal the comeback of the user rooms when the servers are back again?

MemberI’m also wondering if we get the chatrooms back…. for the moment we are unable to connect to the rooms via Messenger… 😡

MemberMy guess is they are starting to slowly phase out the YCHT protocol. Especially considering their merger w/ MSN earlier.
Here is my thought on the matter:

ParticipantYCHT is gone
Yahoo! no longer supports Java Based Chat and since only their java client used YCHT is has been removed.
I would imagine the network downtime at the moment is to fix a lot of network errors and new additions most needed… included the network handling MSNP13/14.
YCHT has been dying a slow death from yahoo! for years, they just finally removed it.

I thought that Yahoo!’s Chat 2.0 used some form of YCHT for its connectivity, at least it used too. Is that now a YMSG protocol?
They most likely killed it to help w/ spam bots as well as the merger w/ MSN.

Participanti would think chat 2.0 is more a ymsg6 http than ycht.
the ycht servers are online just not accepting any connections.
since the chat home page reads from useragent it will say u can still chat with chat 2.0 in ie and only chat with messenger in firefox
its hard to say at this point what changes they will do, but im thinking a login change may be onroute too.

It wouldnt surprise me if they werent getting ready to do another protocol update, to YMSG 14, im not really familiar w/ MSN protocol but i know most of the features set are identical. By instituting a new encryption scheme for login, it would effectively cut chat spam for about 24 hours lol

MemberIronic, since Java was the only chat client that wouldn’t gobble up your text all the time.
Oh well. I can only hope that all the recent screw-ups were because of the updating, and that everything will come out improved.

MemberDamn Yahoo !! 😡 They terminated YCHT support and thus many chat clients that conected thru that protocol will no longer be usefull. We are going to be defenseless against booters and other chat trash. Hope Yahoo improves security on chat in someway.

Participantbooters wont be so “quick” to give out the codes now knowing that themselves have no way to hide from them either.
like if they want to make themselves useful now they can use their program to rid yahoo and spam now the porn bots have t use chat2 or YMSG.
April 21, 2006 at 11:52 am #142693Netti
MemberNOt only that, but booters must be cautious about booting. All I’m hearing about is that the booters are being banned by Yahoo for logging in too many bots, and there bans them, now they have no chat client to get back into. They are gone. Where as the person getting booted can still get back.
So I think regular chatters have the upper hand.
