MemberHi. I am having problems with Yahoo games and the Adverts that are now running at the top of game window.
Let me explain.
Eagle and I and our friends play a lot of 8 ball pool over on Yahoo Games.
When we get to the pool table room there are advertisements at the top. They didn’t have them there till recently.
I am on dialup here in my area of Washington State.
Problem?:( 😡
Almost everytime there is an advertisement change, if I am in the middle of a shot. Or lining up a shot. I loose the focus to my cue stick. I have to wait till it comes back to move where I want to..
If I am in the middle of pulling the cuestick back for a shot… It miss cues and makes a false shot. I have lost three pool games because of this problem.
I would like to know if anyone is having the same problem. Or if someone knows of a cure.
Thank you very much.

ParticipantWell i found a solution but only if you use Mozilla Firefox. I’m not the first to recommend browsers, but if the ads annoy you that badly, you can use it when you want to play pool only? I used this.
Once downloaded and you refresh the browser, open up pool as you usually do and make a table, and on the lower right hand corner it says AdBlock, click on it and click on the first one that says “Frame” and push ok then the ad is gone (You can do the same to the ad on the room too, it has the option Adblock on the lower right hand corner too). ONLY do it to that first Frame because the rest will distort the table. Hope this helps! If you have any questions just post them and i’ll try to answer.
Edit: There probably is an ad smasherblocker for Internet Explorer, but i couldn’t find any, maybe someone else has better luck than me.

MemberThat answer’s FANTASTIC, Vanessa :woot:
I have the same “problem” as Blue, but simply suffer in silence, mainly as I figure any blocking mechanism would be too complicated and messy, and not worth the effort.
AdBlock is perfect though – and after that onetime setup it seems to remember for ever.(On principle I don’t like ad-blockers, but in this case -A- the ads DO interfere with my ability to play the game, and -B- there is no way to even PAY to get rid of them, so BLOCK it is. 😉 )
Wow – you’ve changed my life !

ParticipantYou are very welcome, glad i could help. This is something i now use too when i play pool. I have a fast connection speed but the ad is just too distracting so this makes the game easier to play.
Hope it worked for blue too!

Member:p WOW Do I owe you an Apology Hated Jealousy. Thank you so much for your wonderful answer. If eagle says it works, it works. Eagle just showed me a how to be notified in E-mail when I get an answer to an entry. I am sorry but I wasn’t being notified. Now I will be.
So am very sorry I didn’t answer you right away. Again thanks.:p

MemberOne more very positive feedback – Adblock works just GREAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!! Seconds to download and install . Setup is real easy too. As Hatedjealosy said … Just click on “Adblock” link on lower right, and then select the FIRST entry on the list of items that show up in the next pop-up window. That’s it!!!
Thanks for a great tip.June 5, 2006 at 4:14 am #145630Eagle_Kiwi
MemberAnd … Thanks, BlueC – for a great QUESTION ! 😮

MemberPK Quick question. Do you need to have firefox for your ADblock? I will install firefox if need be… But at this time I am on regular IE.
Thanks all for the wonderful feedback.June 6, 2006 at 8:37 pm #145631Eagle_Kiwi
MemberYes, Blue.

MemberThe only thing close to an “adblock” for Internet Explorer would probably be ad muncher.

MemberYou can use a program like Ad Muncher for IE and Firefox to block the ads too.

MemberAdMuncher costs $25, so that’s not an option for cheapskates like me !
But I’ve now discovered that SlimBrowser has a builtin feature which WILL block the banner while playing Yahoo Pool, though I think it needs to be “set” every time you start playing.(Use: Tools – Download Control – Filter Current Page Now)
SlimBrowser isn’t I.E., though it’s I.E.-based, but at least it shows one doesn’t NEED Firefox in order to block these pesky ads, for free. 🙂
