Membermsn is programmed to notify you with a sound when you get an email but I have yahoo mail which is created by a different company (irrelevant to @msn.com or @hotmail.com)
can MSN be adjusted to give notification for incoming messages to yahoo mail?May 6, 2004 at 8:22 pm #80000detn8r
ParticipantSimply no. Yahoo doesn’t support Pop access (or atleast for free). If you have one that does like an ISP email, etc you can have it notify you by using an addon like Messenger Plus!.

MemberActually Yahoo Canada supports free POP email. I’ve used it for free. I know u’re not from canada, but i’m just stating for another canadian users. check this out. http://help.yahoo.com/help/ca/mail/pop/pop-02.html Then after setting it up you can use it in messenger plus and it notifies you when you have mail in yahoo.

MemberI don’t know if free programs like PopPeeper (http://www.poppeeper.com) is what you are looking for? I love PopPeeper, not having to be on MSN Messenger or Yahoo! Messenger in order to check for incoming messages!

ParticipantThis may not be Canada specific. Try Signing up for the Yahoo! Delivers and fill out the form. Next log into your email and go to Options and then to POP Access & Forwarding and follow the instructions. For more help go to the page Ladie_vennom suggested here. {EDIT – Just tried this on a US based account and it seems to work as long as you use the POP set up link here and not the one on the mail page, but I have yet to test it to be sure about this}
If that doesn’t work you should be able to switch your country at the Account Info page.

ParticipantWell, after trying to test this finally with my US .com address, I recieved this message from yahoo:
Quote:quote:Hello shiftthis_net,You recently attempted to retrieve your Yahoo! Mail messages using a POP3 client such as Outlook Express. Yahoo! Mail no longer provides free POP3 Access or Auto Mail Forwarding to Yahoo! Delivers subscribers.
However my .ca address works fine. It looks like you need to actually initially sign up with Canada to get this for free. If your address doesn’t end in .ca then you aren’t going to get it without paying.

MemberNo problem. I’ve known bout this for quite a while now, should have mentioned it before. I guess non canadians have to go to http://www.yahoo.ca to sign up.

MemberEver hear of YahooPOPs?
http://yahoopops.sourceforge.net“YahooPOPs! emulates a POP3/SMTP server and enables popular email clients like Outlook, Netscape, Eudora, Mozilla, IncrediMail, Calypso, etc., to download and send emails from Yahoo! accounts.”
I’ve been using it for almost a year now. Works great.

ParticipantIf you are good in programming, you can edit the msnmsg.exe in resource hacker, and you are all set.

Yahoo has definitly become my number one resource for email, and it’s messenger is top notch above MSN. Way to go Yahoo. 😀

KeymasterThree cheers for yahoo! Hip Hip….Well umm…you get the point. I think yahoo is winning this “competition” between aim and msn, including the email aspect.
